DADE CITY - A Tommytown convenience store clerk followed two robbers
outside Friday night and shot one of them dead, authorities said. The
other robber escaped.

Authorities identified the slain man as Willie Fred Timmons Jr., a
convicted sex offender from Brooksville.

Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kevin Doll said Timmons and
another person robbed the manager of the Circle G at 15446 14th St.,
about 10 p.m. Friday.

As the two fled, a second clerk followed them into the parking lot and
shot Timmons.

The other robber took off in a black car on U.S. 301, Doll said.

Doll declined to say where or how many times Timmons was shot. It wasn't
clear if Timmons died at the scene.

Doll did not release the names of the store manager or clerk.

The case remains under investigation.
"We don't at this point foresee any charges against the clerk," Doll
said.

Timmons of 227 E Early St. in Brooksville pleaded guilty to attempted
lewd and lascivious assault on a child in 2001, a criminal background
check shows. He originally had been charged with molesting a child. A
judge sentenced him to probation.

He seems to have flunked probation.
