Got some bad news this morning: apparently the State of Florida does not recognize my city's police department.:D

Early this morning I went to the P.O. Box to check the mail and discovered a large package from the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. Hmmm, my Florida renewal, I wonder why the envelope is so large for such a small license?

Nope, no license, but I did receive a letter advising me of a "Notice of Error or Omission", to wit: my fingerprints are invalid, since my fingerprints were taken at the Lafayette, Indiana Police Department, a law enforcement agency.:D Yes, that's right, apparently no one at the Department of Agriculture can read a map or Google my city.

Wait until I tell the Chief that his department is not a real law enforcement agency. Well, I've been telling the Prosecuting Attorney that for a long, long time.:p:D

The non-law enforcement agency in question, LPD=>http://lafayettepolice.us/welcome

I'll hit the PD after yoga to do this all over and then call Florida to give them a heads up. Word to the wise, make sure that clerks in Florida know that Police Departments are law enforcement agencies.:banghead:

Why wouldn't they? Most states with CCW have a license for Non-residents.
Incorrect. There are MANY states that will not issue a permit to anyone that has not been a resident for at least 90 days. There are also a few (like Colorado) that will not honor a CCW from another state unless the person is a resident of the issuing state, i.e. a Wyoming resident with a Florida CCW will have problems in Colorado.

Florida issues CCW to non-residents because they are relatively intelligent, for a government agency. They have a high population of tourists, at any given time. Those tourists are prime targets for crime and Florida realized that allowing them to be armed would be a deterent. It was and remains so.

That's why a state would issue to a non-resident.

I live very close to Pennsylvania, a pretty pro-CCW state. Ohio will not recognize a Pa. permit, so Pa. plays tit-for-tat and refuses to recognize an Ohio permit. They will, however, allow me to apply for a non-resident CCW so I can come and go freely across state lines (I live only 15 min from the line) without going unarmed.

That's why a state would issue a non-resident CCW.

Many retirees have their permenant residence in the state where they spent the majority of their lives and likely have family. They sometimes winter in warmer climates for months at a time. Some states do not seek the disarmament of their residents, even temporary ones.

That's why, too.

I could probably come up with a few others.

Non-resident is the only game in town for people who live in Illinois and Wisconsin, I am from Illinois. I think it is a good idea for the state issuing the non-resident because of the differences in requirements from each state that does issue to residents. Some shall issue states have no or very little training requirement for issue such as Indiana. By issuing the non-resident to a citizen of Indiana, the state of Florida knows that person meets their standards. Jim.

I got printed at the Tippecanoe County lockup when I was going to apply to FL, but in the end I saved my money because I wasn't going anyplace where I needed the permit.

If they refuse to recognize the Marquis de Lafayette, maybe the heroic 1811 victory of Harrison over Prophet, that rung across the land in the election of 1840, will jog their heat-addled brains.

Strange...you have to resubmit prints for renewal?

I never understood why Florida hands out CCW licenses to out of state folks in the first place.

Because many people have a second or third house there, in addition to all of the tourists that go there.

dance, yes, I do have to resubmit print. I don't live in Florida (never been); I live across the river from you.:neener:

I do not know if it the heat, the humidity, the requirement to wear black socks and sandals, or having to eat dinner at 4:30pm which weakens their minds down there to think that a police department is not a law enforcement agency. I shall call Monday morning and get their side of it.

Zo, ziss really hass nossing to do viss "Laf In," jah?

I called Florida today. Apparently there are now two fingerprint cards, an old one and a new one, and the processing clerk got confused. Goodness knows I'm confused.

So, I had my prints taken yet again for Florida. I put a brochure from the Lafayette Police Department that I picked up at city hall in the envelope with my prints.

Maybe this time Florida will beleive that LPD is a cop shop.:D
