Flares. Where can I get 'em?

I want to take flares with me on mountain hikes or on the water.

I have 20 and 12 gauge shotguns. Are there flares that fit in these shottys?

OR

I just bought a C&R 1944 US Navy flare pistol. I believe it's 10 gauge. I can't find flares for it online. Not even sure if they are still made. Anyone have suggestions?

Walmart carries 12ga flares for Orion flare pistols. These work, but you will have to hacksaw off the smaller diameter front section of the flare to get it to chamber in a pump gun. Use only in a cylinder bore gun or else you may stick a flare in the barrel.

Orion makes marine flares and distributes thru West Marine (available online).

As for flares on a hike, might there be some liability involved if a forest fire were started?

Don't worry about the choke. They will rattle down the barrel like a BB in a boxcar. We used to shoot off our expired flares during the July 4th fireworks displays, since the Coast Guard was right there and it was obviously NOT an emergency. Be advised that it is against the law to discharge an emergency flare if there is not an emergency.

You might consider a 10 to 12 ga chamber adapter so you can shoot Olin marine 12 ga flares in your Very Pistol.
