Hi guys,

I’m looking for a flash suppressed or low flash powder for SD loads that can achieve the following velocities (which I’ve done using regular flash bulb in your face powders):

9mm +p 124g gdhp 1250fps glock

357 magnum 158g 1175fps medium load 4in revolver

38 special +p 125g hp 1075fps 4in revolver

I have found ram shot silhouette excellent for 45 acp +p 230g gdhp at 950fps (their load data) out of a 1911.

I am perfectly fine using 3 or 4 different powders.

Thanks guys!

9mm +p 124g gdhp 1250fps glock

1250 is pushing a 124 pretty hard even allowing + P, IMO.
Would need to be something slow like 3N37, but anything slow enough to get you close is probably not low flash....

Bullseye 86 (previously mentioned) is the only powder I have seen that is advertised as having a flash suppressant in included. https://www.alliantpowder.com/products/powder/be-86.aspx

You can get the velocities you are looking for in .38 +P and ,357 mag using data listed on the Alliant website using Bullseye 86. Not going to approach 1,250 fps with the 124/125gr JHP's in the 9mm without using a slower powder like HS7, Blue Dot or maybe Power Pistol all of which give quite a muzzle flash when shot.

Generally I just buy the Hot 9mm stuff because I have no desire to shoot much of it. Have a couple boxes of Winchesster +P+ 127gr Ranger SXT's surplus police ammo. I chrono'd some of those out of my Glock 19 and they averaged 1,273 fps.

I also would say BE-86 is worth trying.

So far I've only loaded a 125gr Gold Dot in .357 Sig. But with Alliant's data, it hit 1400fps from a 4" barrel with very respectable accuracy and (I think) single digit Standard Deviation. I'd assume it would work very well for the loads you're interested in.

Promo is Red Dot without the color flakes, and cheaper. Use the same weight, not volume, since it has a slightly different density without the color flakes. I use a lot of Red Dot and Promo in shot shells and .45 auto.

I actually have some 9mm test loads loaded up with BE-86 for this weekend. I’ll be curious if you can get BE-86 to push a 124grn bullet that fast. My first test loads with a 124grn bullet hit a velocity threshold in my 3.6” Kahr barrel, but hit my 1050fps goal. I’m going to borrow a Taurus with a 5” barrel to see if I can get additional velocity out of it, or if it was just a fluke.

Yeah I am using Blue Dot at Max Load from the Speer Manual to achieve that velocity, and it is a whopper of a flash.
I noticed the BE86 lists a 6 inch for the 38 +P for a 125g, and it's only 1075 for a 158g in 357 Mag?
