From a page on new solid copper .45 acp rounds from Taurus
Propellant - Smokeless custom blend - flash suppressed
Anyone know just how much flash can be suppressed, thru powder chemistry.

What also is maybe the lowest flash signature from any one powder? Blue dot for example is ''up there'' with the flashy powders!!:p

makes it smokier as a general rule.
Sounds like what Rem puts in the UMC stuff! Dirty as heck!

That I guess is logical tho ... probably reduce flame temperature (and flash) whilst still getting expansive volume but then ... a greater qty of poorly combusted material and so smoke.

Like most things ... compromize plays a roll I imagine.

AA #2 was the lowest flash .45ACP powder of 14 tested for a Tactical Journal article, Power Pistol the greatest. I use AA #2 for low light matches and it seems to do ok.

''Power Pistol'' is IIRC in a similar category to the H-110 types? I guess when slower powders pushing mag loads ... flash is a necessary bi-product!:p

Shovel-full of Blue Dot tho - takes some beating!!

Wish I knew what Winchester puts in their rather whimpy .454 load .... the 250 grain one .. it has half the power of the Hornady 300 grainers but - fire?? Heck ... it's awesome.

You know the pic of course ... I keep posting it! :p :D Now that is ''FLASH'' ... yeah?

Chris, Great picture, I like that picture as much as you do!!

Universal in my 40, 45 and 357 magnum loads makes little or no smoke at all. It also burns cleaner than anything else I have tried, especially when pressures get up near 30K PSI in the 40 and the magnums, it doesn't even leave soot! Flash is almost completely suppressed, you have to be in near darkness before you see any and it is a real dull dark orange color. I would also guess that the flame temp is higher in Universal than it is for Unique, which has a little flash and a fair bit of smoke. I guess that because I have leading issues with Universal that I don't have with Unique when everything else is the same. Recovered bullet bases show more erosion with Universal also while Unique has tons more flash.

Universal is only slightly faster than Power Pistol. One is nearly flashless while the other could be used as a flash for your camera. AA2 is very low flash. Longshot is pretty low flash, and WAY slower than PP or Universal.

Chemistry is the key for flash, it can be eliminated or nearly so in my experience in all speed ranges.
