Ihave a flint lock pistol made from a japanese kit,it will not fire because the frizzen
does not open fully,it just sits there with the flint resting against the bottom quarter
of the frizzen.
is the frizzen spring too strong?does the cam which bears on the spring need re-locating?
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Try to polish the cam that comes in contact with the frizzen spring. Or take
just a little off. Go a very little at a time. You can take it off, but you can't
put it back on.

First, lubricate the cam between the end of the frizzen and the leaf spring. A small dab of Moly lube works great for this. You should be able to cause the frizzen to "cam over" from closed to open with moderate thumb pressure. Next, check to see where the flint hits the frizzen when closed. Mine all hit about 2/3 of the way up the frizzen surface. If it hits too high there are two things you can do. The flint may be too long or clamped too far out in which case shorten in a little or move it further into the clamp. Second, if the flint bevel is facing down try turning it bevel up. If the flint edge is really digging into the frizzen and you think it's otherwise adjusted properly perhaps the frizzen surface is too soft, in which case you will have to harden it. Let us know how you fixed it.

STOP!

WAIT! I have seen these where the feather spring CANNOT be compressed more'n a very small fraction of an inch. In other words, they CANNOT be cocked and you'll just bend or break the feather spring screw!!!

Picture please of lock is required for us.
