Two new floral carved Tanker rigs from El Paso Saddlery. One for 5.5" SAA's and one for 5.5" Colt cartridge conversions. The latter will also work for small frame guns like my Old Model Single Sixes. Their work is still excellent and these delivered in four weeks.

To go with this one for N-frames and another black one for autos.

I ordered a holster from them once. It was so bad I'm not sure that I'll do it again. Yours look great though.

I have never done a chest rig. I really don't like anything pulling down on my shoulders and only used a rifle sling when carrying a stool and caller when coyote hunting. Floral carving has always been my thing doing leather work. I have made one border stamped holstering my life. I was satisfied with the way it turned out until I stuck the revolver I made it for into it and discovered I had measured wrong and the gun wouldn't go all the way in.

I wasn't sure about them until I started using them for hunting guns. That really sold me on the concept. I didn't think the Tanker would be as comfortable as they are, that was another surprise.

I always figured I'd have to go all in on floral carving to be any good at it. I did one, a Hand of God holster several years ago and never tried another. Sold it to somebody on ColtForum.

I keep hemming and hawing about ordering a no-holds-barred floral carved and black background rig from them, but the horror stories over the last few years have put me off. Maybe it's time to roll those dice.

I find floral carving to be very therapeutic. My hands hate me after a couple hours on the bench but it does help to slow the brain down and relax. I prefer my own carving and tooling style which is more of a tattoo look. But do enjoy sinking my teeth in a nice old school sheridan style ornate floral design.

I've been buying from them for probably 25yrs. The only issue I've ever had was a floral carved #88 for 1911's that the suede lining tore out of. They replaced the holster no questions asked.

I am still looking for a leathersmith to build a black, floral carved, Sunday Scabbard for my ACP N frame.

Pretty good for a first. Some practice on pear shading and decorative cuts and you would be good to go IMO. If you get bored with what you are doing you might give it another a try.

Thanks. I may at some point. I do have some stuff I want to try but it's 2D frontier excised floral, not Sheridan.

Haven't really done anything at all this year. Started one for myself I never finished. Made a full flap for a customer, I'm 95% through a rawhide sheath for myself and just got my first Etsy order in about a year.

Sheridan carving has always seemed too "busy" for my tastes. Ordinary floral is my like. My son recently returned from a trip to Lubbock, TX. While there he dropped into Tandy Leather Supply and brought me an Al Stholman book that I was never aware of. It is on reverse floral carving and looks to be an interesting technique. I am going to give it a try after I become more mobile.

I haven't replied in ages, but quality is quality. Craig C always makes lovers of six guns come out of the woodwork.

Mid South gun nut here with a question... where are the 11 stars??

I would have never thought I'd like an all black holster, but this has definitely changed my mind. Very nice!!

That looks great to me. What don’t you/people think is up to snuff about it?

That's not black. It's what I sold as oxblood.

Not much really. It was a pretty good first effort. I was told the decorative cuts were lacking. Which they were and I attributed mostly to hand fatigue, as it was the last thing I did. I also needed to improve my swivel knife skill, which I've done as I started doing all my line work with it, instead of the stitch groover. I just never really felt the urge to dive all the way in.
