Florida or Kentucky?

If you had a choice between living in either one of these states based solely on your gun collection, would there be anything that would make you choose one over another? How are the long-term situations so far as gun legislation and such?

I'm over 21, if that helps.

Interested in any input you might offer. Thanks!
 
Kentucky is very gun friendly, and the prices are lower than most of the rest of the country. Kentucky doesn't have as much salt to chew on the guns either.
 
I like to VISIT the state of FLORIDA...but I don't like sand all that much. I don't know much about gun laws in Kentucky...so I'll stay in Tennessee.

I know. That wasn't much help. :D

I am a Tax & Regulation refugee from WNY to SW Florida. I was also one of the first "Shall-issue" CCW applicants when Florida went the way of the "Wild West." I love Florida's Pro 2nd Amendment's position to include "Stand your ground." Yeah, yeah, we still have the Brady's 3-day waiting period for non-CCW buyers, but over-all a gun-friendly State. No worries about a gun in the glove-box and the Home invasion stats are definitely on our side. Having been robbed 20+ times in New York State, I am thrilled to live in a Pro 2nd Amendment State like Florida. Now, I am waiting for "Open carry" legislation.
 
I’m happy in the constitutional carry state of Arizona. Beats both Kentucky and Florida. Other than the gun free zones, the only restrictions are the Federal ones.
 
Kentucky has SYG.

Apologies to Floridians, but Florida has Florida Man. Kentucky has bourbon. I've only been to FL though, and SW is nice, if humid. As far as your criteria, they're pretty similar.

I would opt for Kentucky. Have lived in both states and aside from the existing pro-gun culture in each state I prefer the temperate climate of Kentucky to that of the more hot and humid conditions (not to mention tropical storms and hurricanes), that might be found in Florida.
 
Of the two, I'd probably choose KY, but I live in South TX and am glad to be done with the humid, sticky summers.

This is a guess. Florida is much more volatile when compared to Kentucky. Lots of people move to Florida. How often do you hear of people moving to Kentucky? And when people move, they bring their liberal ideas and votes with them. Look what happened to Colorado. California people move in and suddenly the guns are in jeopardy! Guns are part of Kentucky culture. Even as late as WWII, just being FROM Kentucky made people assume/suspect that you know your guns. Florida has no such tradition and is already a "swing state". There is no contest imho. Plus Bourbon, Fried Chicken, and a winter (sort of). Kentucky, the state so slick that it ends in KY!
 
I live in Kentucky and the gun laws here are about the best in the country. Open carry, glove box carry with no permit, CDW with reciprocity in a majority of the states, no registration etc...

That being said Kentucky is just God awful when it comes to taxes. An income tax, sales tax, high insurance rates etc... If it can be taxed Kentucky will tax it and then waste the money on the golden triangle, Lexington/Louisville/Covington area. If you live outside this area your are a second class citizen in the state. Florida has no income tax big plus, but no mountains and you have to deal with lots of yankee's migrating in and out of the state bringing their liberal insanity with them like locust.
 
I'm very familiar with Florida and Tennessee, which is pretty similar to Kentucky in these regards. I live in extreme NE Florida and have traveled all over the state (and the US) in the past 25 years. For a variety of reasons, many of which are not related to the OP's specific questions, I would not be interested in moving further south in Florida.

One potential issue in FL, assuming you don't own any rural acreage yourself, is finding a place to shoot outdoors (I have very little interest in shooting at indoor ranges). In TN, and I assume KY is similar, it's relatively easy to find friends/acquaintances who have a good place to shoot. IME, that's much more difficult in FL. I go back to TN for a couple of weeks every year and do 10X more shooting in those two weeks than I do all year in FL. Of course it helps that my family own about 500 acres of land there, but even if they didn't, friends and neighbors are very shooter-friendly with their land.
 
Split the difference and move to Tennessee. Lots to do within driving distance and very little is restricted here. I'm heading to the Alabama coast in a few days and it's only a 6 hour drive. Almost everything you could need is just a day trip away.

You can open carry, conceal, have machine guns, silencers, whatever you want and places to shoot are not lacking.
 
I live in Florida, not far north of Palm Beach.

If I had my druthers, I'd stay here, but move much further north, and inland, away from the areas popular with the yankees and tourists.

But I do see changes in the future, within a generation or so, as the liberal culture in areas such as Miami, Palm Beach County, Orlando, and Jacksonville, become more pervasive.
 
I live in Indiana just a stone's throw across the mighty Ohio from Kentucky.

I rather like the state quite a bit. Lots to do there if you aren't looking for massive mega-cities like NYC or Chicago, but Louisville is a good size place with plenty to do.

It's very gun friendly and honors Indiana's permit, so I am free to travel to and from without an issue.

I married a girl from Louisville, went to college in Murray and Bowling Green, and I visit and work in the smaller cities of Owensboro and Henderson quite often. If I were going to move from the Hoosier state, KY would probably be my destination.
 
I have lived in KY and currently reside in FL.

where in KY? there are two different world's there. in the east/mountains it is very poor, rugged, rural and I don't like the people all that much (welfare state) but I really love the land. it doesn't get much better.

the bluegrass region is really special, a great part of america, beautiful horses, great bourbon, and friendly people.

great thing about KY and guns: KY constitution gives you the right for self defense/no group or entity can prevent you from having a firearm in your car, school, campus etc.

no waiting period that is just a hassle for most normal folks.

shall issue CCW/right to carry/open carry state.

Florida has many similar laws and rights, but there are a lot more people and a lot more retired people who move here for taxes, i would place florida more "at risk" for ignorant laws. currently 3 day wait for handguns if you do not have a CCW.

oh, and the high today is 93, just like the high has been every day since april. . . .
 
Is there not a whole lot of 'Up' in Kentucky? And doesn't Florida periodically get washed into the ocean? Wouldn't pick where I live based entirely on the gun laws(or what booze is made there. snicker.), myself. Too many other, more important, variables.
 
Kentucky was front and center of the worst earthquake in recent North American history. My daughter lives on the west end close to that fault. Spent a fair amount of time in Kentucky and it's agreeable with me but I'm not a big beach lover.

I live in the Florida Keys, which to much of the world is saying you live in Paradise. It is, but Kentucky gun laws are as good or better, and KY will have permit less carry very soon.

Florida has been unable to even get OC in force, other than a few exceptions, such as camping, hunting or on your own property.

Gunwise, it's Kentucky for me. Weather wise, I have the best in the world in Key Largo. :cool:
 
If a gun collection is in control of your life................. That`s a sorry state of affairs.

Kentucky needs folks like you...........:)
 
Kentucky. Too many New Yorkers in Florida trying to turn that state into a cesspool.

The BEST gunstores i've been to were in the Louisville area and Elizabethtown.

I miss Little Biff's gun room. Some of my best guns came from there.
 
Based solely on my gun collection? Kentucky it is because of lack of hurricanes. If you've ever noticed a lot of the crazy news stories come out of Florida. To many people moving in and out all the time. I do get a kick out of the liberal comments. Liberal are all over the country and they didn't all come from the north east and they all aren Yankees. Florida is the retirement state for a lot of New Yorkers so that part is true.
 
Florida is too hot more than half the year to comfortably shoot outdoors. Honestly, it's probably closer to 9 months out of the year if you south of Gainesville.

I hate sweating through my clothes just to spend an hour with a rifle.

Ever sat in a tree stand in late October when it's still above 90 degrees?

Not much fun.
