This just in from the NRA:

Urgent Call To Action:
SB-1130 To Be Heard By Senate Any Day!

THIS IS AN URGENT ACTION ALERT -- IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE A FIREARM IN YOUR LOCKED CAR OR TRUCK YOU MUST ACT NOW!

SB-1130 Guns-locked-in-Cars Headed to Senate Floor

Date: March 31, 2008
TO: USF & NRA Member and Friends
FROM: Marion P. Hammer
USF Executive Director
NRA Past President

Senate Bill 1130 by Senator Durell Peaden (R-Crestview) will be heard on the SENATE FLOOR SOON!

For three years we have fought corporate giants and big business bullies. They want ban firearms and prohibit you from parking in publicly accessible parking lots if you have a firearm locked in your car or truck for protection while traveling to and from shopping, work, or where ever your daily routine takes you.

This is a WAR for your safety and your firearms freedom. Your right to have a firearm in your locked car or truck when you park in a publicly accessible parking lot is on the line. Whether your firearm rights live or die is NOW up to the Senate.

The bill protects your right to have a firearm locked in your vehicle for self-defense and other lawful purposes when it is parked in a publicly accessible business parking lot.

It is time to start sending email to ALL members of the Florida Senate to let them know how important this bill is to law-abiding gun owners who carry firearms in their vehicles for protection and other lawful purposes.

Please immediately send emails to ALL the members of the Senate and URGE THEM TO SUPPORT SB-1130. Then CALL YOUR Senator's Tallahassee office and urge him or her to support SB-1130.

For more information on this critical issue, please click here.

BACKGROUND:

The bill will stop business entities from searching private vehicles and violating the constitutional rights of customers and employees.

Your Second Amendment rights are at the very heart of this issue.

In addition to prohibiting searches of private vehicles in parking lots, the bill will also prevent businesses from asking customers or employees to disclose what personal private property is stored in a private vehicle and prevents action against customers and employees who refuse to divulge that private information. Further, it prohibits action against a customer or employee based on information provided by a third party.

Some Florida businesses are trying to ban firearms in cars in parking lot used by customers and employees. They are discriminating against people who exercise their constitutional rights – they are violating the constitutional rights of gun owners and Florida law.

Corporate giants have been trampling constitutional rights. Some are even attempting to coerce and intimidate gun owners into giving up constitutional rights as a condition of employment.

The bill protects your right have a firearm in your locked vehicle for lawful purposes and to park your vehicle in parking lots when shopping, working, or transacting business.

Emails sent! Let's get this thing passed and get it over with. Next email/letter/fax campaign will be aimed at Crist. I think he'll sign it, but we've got to make sure that he knows how we feel about this bill.

Emails sent.If it gets to Crist's desk he'll sign it.

Emails sent last night. Intend to call my state senator (Posey) today although IIRC he's on the right side of this issue.

I'm still not clear, do the House Bill (503 I think?) and Senate Bills 1130 still need to be reconciled before going to the Governor?

xdsquidgator,I may be wrong ,but believe SB-1130 and HB-503 still need to be reconciled if Senate passage occurs.Perhaps someone has the current status.

I got at least one reply:
Thank you for contacting the office of State Senator Daniel Webster regarding your support SB 1130, the “Firearms in Motor Vehicles” bill. The bill has passed all of its committees and is eligible to be heard by the full Senate body. Senator Webster has a history of being a strong supporter of 2nd Amendment rights. On March 25th, in the Judiciary Committee, he voted in support of the bill. Your letter of support will be communicated to him as he prepares for the final Senate vote.

Thank you for taking the time to express your views and ideas on this issue. Your input and participation in the legislative process are both welcomed and appreciated.

Sincerely,

Rachel Brigham

Administrative Assistant

Office of Senator Daniel Webster

District 09

I'm thinking of sending a "thank you" email but I don't want to gum up the works.
Now let's just hope they don't find out I'm not in Florida...

As a Florida resident, I recieved good, non-automated feedback from

Senator Don Gaetz
Senator Lee Constantine
Senator Daniel Webster

All since I sent in my email yesterday afternoon.
