I have been giving serious consideration to moving my family into Florida in the next five years. To those of you who are Florida residents: what direction is the state's politics heading in regards to gun control? Is it getting progressively more anti-gun, is it stable, or is it the reverse? I'm already familiar with FL's shall-issue status.

I also understand that there is a state-level AWB pending, but that it has almost no chance of passing. While things of this nature are generally hard to predict, is Florida's legislature more or less pro-gun or anti-gun?

Gunshine state. I got my CCW in 3 weeks and every AWB type legislation gets shot down immeidately.

We are currently working to expand castle doctrine to public areas as well.

Besides allowing concealed carry in more places (like schools), there isnt much left to liberalize here regarding guns. Most of the progress will have to come at the federal level from here on out.

Turning 21 in four days and applying for my CCW within the month (I need to get the class out of the way, trying to find someplace to take that at). All in all, not a bad place. We don't have open carry :cuss: , but as stated above, CCW is quick and easy to get. Welcome. :D

We're not exactly sure yet, Parallax. But we have been looking around the Tampa area, specifically a little north of Tampa around where Homosassa is. We're not interested in living on the coast.

Citrus County, located about an hour North of Tampa, location of Homosassa is a fast growing County, in the process of losing it's rural appeal and laid back attitude. I have been here since 1989 and as of the present, couldn't think of a county or State I would rather reside in.

Florida's gun laws are , in a word, great. No open carry, and a few unnecessary restrictions on where you can carry, but otherwise, unless you live in Vermont or Alaska, they can't be beat.

Now for the bad news. The only public range in the County, which was located in Homosassa by the way, closed this year. The owners claimed they could no longer get Liability Ins. for a manageable cost. Next closest range is located in Hernando County (South of Citrus) and is an outdoor facility. The closest indoor range is located in Pasco County, (South of Hernando).

You will appreciate the value of an indoor range in July when temperature-Humidity read 95-95

One last point. Citrus County is a Retirement community populated primarily by Yankees (no offence) so the chance of finding aplace to shoot in the country are slim to none. The silver hairs will cal 911 at the drop of a hat when gunfire is heard, and the Sheriff office is quick to answer shooting calls

Other than that, it is a great area to live in, come on down.
