I'm thinking about buying an FM Detective compact Hi-Power, which is basically the Hi-Power's version of a Commander-length gun. However, I'm worried that the non-standard spring setup FM uses for the shorter slide may be difficult to replace. Thus far, it appears that my suspicions may be correct: I can't seem to find any online information on replacement recoil springs.

Does anyone know where I can find replacement recoil springs for a Detective Hi-Power slide?

I have used hipower springs in my cz 75b. Well wolf gunsprings uses the same springs for cz and witness pistols. Maybe you could use a witness spring for a compact model. They sell them in different weights. Mark

I'm pretty certain it's absolutely acceptable to link to resources on other forums, so long as they're cogent to the discussion, so feel free t'link us up when you get home.

Someone on another forum has said he has used CZ 75 springs on the Detective model with good results...

I was going to post my own discovery of that (probably on the same forum). It looks like the 18-pound CZ-75 springs should do the trick. However, the same guy who reported using CZ-75 springs also reported that the locking lugs on his detective experienced peening: http://handgunsandammo.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=fnhipower&action=display&thread=1131326003

If I recall correctly, peened barrel lugs indicate that the recoil spring has not soaked up enough barrel/slide momentum by the time the barrel engages with the cam, so the lugs get scraped over each other. Can anyone provide any insight on this? If I do get a Detective, I'd like to ensure its longevity.
