FN sues Ruger over trademark infringement

Plus, who calls the SFAR the “sfar” like “scar”?? I don’t and wouldn’t. It would be the “S-F-A-R”. As in AR-10. You don’t call it the “are ten” 🤷‍♂️
FN’s attorneys must be bored

Wait, it’s not “Esse-‘far”?
I dislike spelling things, the twins are two now and we are having to start spelling “naps” and “bath”.
(Otherwise they get started without me!)

FN must really think SFAR is reference to SCAR. When you're caught up in yourself that thing happens where you think everything is a imitation of you. I dont know how much their military contracts are still going but maybe they're desperate for money. The worst case is Ruger just changes the name to SOFAR or something

Well, to be honest, I wouldn't know the difference, but then I have little to no interest in either of them. I couldn't tell you evem now after reading this thread which is which.

I'm not sure if that helps or hurts either's case.

Well, they are both SCARY to some folks.

As a practical matter, there is usually a lot more going on that we know about. A trademark holder must defend its trademark in order to protect any IP value it has, so sends out cease and desist demands. This happens frequently. If those are opposed or ignored, their bluff has been called, the legal expense meter starts running, and any coverage of the ensuing fracas gets them more publicity and lets them make the case in the courts and in public over the uniqueness and advantages of their baby.

This is not the first time FN has sued Ruger over trademark infringements.

They did back in March 6, 2020, in the same court, it was over the "Ruger-57" being an infringment. It was dismissed on September 16, 2021 (possibly settled).

I guess this is just "round 2".

FN doesn't have much of a foot left to stand on. They're just mad because over the last decade and change, they have more than doubled the cost of the SCAR and hardly anyone is buying it.
