I know this question has been asked numerous times, but I keep getting conflicting answers. I am about to purchase a police trade in 3rd gen. G22 and cn't afford to shoot much unless I reload. I intend to only reload with jacketed bullets, but am still a little concerned with loose chambers in Glocks. I have been told that the 3rd gen. Glock 22's have tighter chambers than the older Glocks. Is this true? I don't really want to have to pay for an aftermarket barrel with a tighter chamber just for peace of mind. Otherwise, I'll just buy an XD, but I really prefer the G22 - even over the new XDM. I need to add that I have been reloading for 30+ years, always stay well under maximum recommended load data, and have never had even a minor accident. Any advice from experienced Glock shooters/reloaders is much appreciated.

I haven't seen anything that suggests that the 3rd generation barrels provided more support than the earlier ones, but there are folks on here more knowledgeable about Glocks that can probably answer your question for sure. I had a G22 for a while and loved it, and I also reloaded for it using only jackets. The responses I've seen on the whole reloading thing tend to say a) stick within the guidelines, and b) inspect your brass more than you might otherwise with handgun cases and you'll probably be fine. I put quite a few of my reloads through my G22 and never once had a problem.
That said, I will also tell you that I have and XDM in .40 and absolutely love it. Very well made and very very accurate, and it sure looks like it provides more support than the Glock. In any case, I don't think you could go wrong with either gun and it sounds like you're a careful reloader...that's the most critical part IMHO. Good luck!

If you are getting a really good deal on the trade in gun I'd consider buying a LoneWolf conventional rifling barrel to shoot your reloads in.

I have seen this picture online before. I bought a new G23 barrel mid last year, and still need to examine it to make sure it most closely matches the 2009 picture.
I am refining my .40 load now, so... check back in a few months after I've fired a quantity of a "production" load, and I'll let you know if I think there are issues.
Right off the bat, I would recommend getting a Redding G-Rx .40 push-through base sizing die, as I did run into a sizing problem on one round in my very first batch of .40's. The brass was range pickup, so could have been fired in early Glock barrels for all I know.
