The CZ 527 carbine comes from the factory chambered in two calibers, .223 and 7.62x39. After being "turned on" to the gun by MadOgre's review and quite a bit of consideration, I've decided to buy one of the new synthetic-stocked ones but haven't decided which caliber I want. For fun, give me your thoughts with the following considerations in mind:

1. Ammo price isn't really a consideration
2. This will serve as a utility rifle more than anything else. Not a main hunting rifle or for any purpose other than just having a short, handy carbine for fun.
3. Scope will most likely be a Vortex Viper 2-7 variable. Rings will be Warne QD ('cause I DO use irons on a long gun that has them), though I've read that scoping one is somewhat problematic. I'd rather have the medium rings and will modify the bolt handle, if necessary, to use them.
4. Targets are targets of opportunity. It's unlikely that this will ever be a serious hunting gun. Rocks, junk, and small nuisance animals are most likely the victims here.

I have both, and they are both great. unless you wanna deer hunt, the x39 is not necessary. they are both rediculously accurate, both are moa at 100 yds, with most any ammo. the 223 is sick accurate though, and off of just sandbags, can make 3, 4, and 5 shot singular round holes at 100 yds, with 3 diff kinds of ammo; blackhills blue box, remmy/umc yellow-greenbox, and winny varmint 45 grainers.
if ammo cost is not a care, then the 223 will be most impressive, and you will be able to hit little bitty things far away.

They come in a lot more calibers than just the two you have listed. Drop down list on this link isn't working right now, but hopefully it'll be fixed sometime soon.

I just bought on in .22 Hornet

Just was looking at that page again and see you were referring to the Carbine... My bad

I'd go with the .223 outta the two
