Finally got my Milt Sparks Watch 6. Getting situated with the 1911 and well...where the heck do you guys tote them? I'm used to carrying a Glock 19 around 3:30 in a Galco NSA holster. When I put the 1911 there, it's like there is grip following me like a bridal train. I'd like to know the experience of others.

I carry at about 3:30 in a Milt Sparks NP-2. One other thing, 95% of the time, it is a LW Colt Commander. The other 5%, a 5 in. Government model in a MS NP-1.

I carry commander 1911 in Milt Sparks VM-II or Watch Six at ~ 4:30 o'clock. Very comfortable and hides well under plain T-shirt.

Small of back. Even a small guy like me can do it. You just need a decent belt and holster.

4:00 strong-side in either a Galco Summer Comfort or a De Santis Inner Piece. If I roll it around to the 4:00 position rather than the 3:00-3:30, the butt lies flat against my back.

3:00 - 4:00 in a KyTac Braveheart. Depends on what I'm wearing for a covering garment.

my big rear end makes it print heavily if i wear it past 3:00. so i have a IWB from rafters gunleather, that disappears at 3.

my tuckable from high noon works alright 3:00-4:30, it rides very low that way, but drawing it is no longer simple that way.

as far as weight is concerned, i balance it out with my double mag carrier from galcom at 8:00. without it, i cant go an hour without having low back stress.

Milt Sparks VM2H at four o'clock....

Officer's of ParaOrd LDA Companion. Same position for my Government and Commander(unless I carry more than one!). Carried this way through several Floridian summers and one hot Vegas summer(I do mean hot!!) Under a one size larger than normal T, Polo or button up shirt, it stays hidden quite nicely.
A good gunbelt is mandatory.
I'd add, avoid the rubber grips, they catch the shirt covering and can lead to printing of your heater.

Like El Tejon, are you carrying it on a gun belt? That REALLY helps in keeping the pistol secure against the body. Also, I would try rolling it back more towards the 4 o' clock position.

Hmm... I tend to carry at 3:00, maybe I should try 4:00 and see how that feels, I worry since I have so much flesh in the way everywhere though. :D

I carry either a Govt. model or my new Colt CCO in a Kydex CompTac C-T.A.C. holster right behind my strong side hip bone. I've adjusted the C-T.A.C. for maximum forward cant and it tucks right into my side.

With the light CCO I forget it's there, but the weight of the steel frame Govt. reminds me now and then.

Some wisdom that I learned here is a t-shirt under the gun goes a long way towards improving comfort.

A little over 3 weeks ago I got a Threat Solutions UCR (Kydex IWB) and can now comfortably conceal everything from a Kimber Ultra Carry to an all steel Government Model or the Wilson KZ-45. This holster is thin, flat, light weight and very fast.
I guess the position is what would be about 3:30, or a little behind the point of the hip. There's kind of a hollow there that the muzzle rests in so I don't get poked by it.

Concealing a fullsize gun...1911, CZ75, 220 or whathaveyou?......at 4.00-4.30 it depends on your build, the holster design etc.......

No "Wonder Combination" is gonna work from person to person.....if youve got long arms and long legs= no torso length...a holster with more cant or ride ht differences will hide the same but not draw the same as it does for someone with short legs and arms...make sense?

The best advice I can offer is buy a cheap spring clip IWB holster and a cheap clear plastic protracter (every grocery store sells them).

Now, put your gun in it and get in front of a mirror. Put it at 4.00 to start with and play with cant/angles...see what hides the gun well and still allows you to draw the gun smoothly and fluently. If that doesnt work..move it back to 4.30..do the same thing...until you find the angle/location that hides the gun with your body type.

Have your cuter than you/half figure the angle with the cheap plastic protracter. Now sit down, stand up..twist, bend over, stand up, kneel down....do a somersalt if you can.....
See how the gun felt during the activity? ESPECIALLY SITTING.....

Now check it out again.....the gun probably changed its cant/angle slightly but youll still get the "general idea" of how it worked.

Take a picture of the "Perfect Location/angle" if you can and start your quest for "the holster that fits than angle and ride ht.

IMO, thats the purpose of the cheap nylon holsters with the weaker clips..they allow you to use them as a tool to find the one that you wont want to replace.

If you need further help...you can email me ANYTIME.

Shoot well.....................

I carry a full size Kimber in a Gould and Goodrich IWB at 3:30. I'm 6'3" and weigh 250 lbs.

G33InMyPocket: My shorts pocket is big enough to carry my Para Carry, but I don't like the swing bang swing bang with every step into my thigh. :D

And anyways, the Arizona winter is coming, so it's jeans time, and they don't have that big of a pocket.

Update: I've found the position to get everything nice and concealable. It took awhile in that it is slightly forward of where I carried my G19. I feel this when I carry it, unlike my glock. Don't think it is a bad thing, just need to get used to it. Thanks.
