An acquaintance of mine recently bought one. I myself dislike them but to be honest, there's no real substance behind that. I'm curious to see why all of you other folks dislike them. I know the trigger pull is a common complaint, but cant that be rectified with a replacement/or upgrade?

I don't have a "passionate dislike" but after trying a couple factory mags in a sub compact .40 I had I still got consistant FTF. That one went down the road. If I get a chance to get a good deal on another I will give it a try.

Personally I like them, cannot imagine anyone compaining about the trigger as most of those who seem to dislike XDs are the same that highly advocate for Glocks. Cannot imagine complaining about an xd trigger and liking a Glock trigger... no comparison between the triggers... functionally, no difference.

Compared to ergonomics of the M&P line the XD suffers. The XD is not American made, two strikes. The XD sights at least on my XD45 were not regulated to hit to POA. I sold it and replaced with a M&P. IMHO the XD is overated, but still better than the block, I mean glock.

DING DING>>> WE HAVE A WINNER..I dont mind the sites or the country of origin, but otherwise i couldnt agree more..

U-G-L-Y
you ain't got no alibi
you're ugly!
you're ugly!

better trigger and feel than my glock though, and shoots great. Of course, functionally, the pontiac aztek was a great car too........

But you can fix the Glocks trigger.

I liked the XD. It deosn't do anything for me that a Glock deosn't do better. The compact Glocks fit me well. I liked the feel of the XD .45 over the M&P.

Its a great gun. Even if it is big and ugly. Allthough an USP or a Sig is really ugly and people seem to like those. Its perfectly reliable as best as I can see.

:barf:

Americans probably couldn't make an American Flag properly.

I had an earlier XD9. Nothing really wrong with the gun itself, but I just couldn't get used to the mushy trigger. My hand didn't reliably disengage the grip safety either. LOP was just too short for me to press it in all the way.

Sir, I take personal insult to that statement. Have a look at American flags, you'll find the vast majority are made...here in the USA. You really stuck your foot in your mouth on that one.

The XD is not American made, two strikes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

It matters little where the gun is assembled or manufactured. Manufacturing is often outsourced to protect the really important jobs in a company. The engineers, designers, purchasing agents, executives, finance guys. The salaries of those individuals and their contributions to the product dwarf what you get from the place of manufacture or assembly. If you are interested in "American" goods what matters is to what country the profits flow and who does the design, engineering, parts purchasing and/or fabrication. There is so much more in the value chain of a product than where it is "made".

So many people get this wrong every time. Imported cars are a great example....I'll buy a Honda because it's "Made in America"! WRONG. It is put together in America and you're paying the salaries of the Japanese while they laugh at you.

Last I checked Springfield Armory was a very old US company.

Rant off....back to the topic at hand. I kind of like the gun!

I don't hate the XD by any means. I know a lot of XD owners love 'em and trust their lives to them everyday. For me, there have been too many other things on my list that I liked better.

for those of you who have and XD, have you made any improvements to it or would you consider doing so?

I stopped considering it when I found out it wasn't made in the USA.

I will pay more for a product made in the USA, even if the quality is no better than a comparable foreign made product. The fact that the XD was just a rebadging of an existing product furthered my disinterest.

I don't mean to imply that everything USA made is superior, I would just prefer to support my countrymen and the companies that employ them, because they are more likely to do business with me as well if they have the money to do so.

I'm sure the XD is a fine weapon, and if I were a Croatian I'd definitely want one. Personally I went with a S&W M&P.

i have an XD .45ZACP Service full size.. it's true that you have to get used to the trigger pull, the break and the reset.. once you get those memorized, there is nothing wrong with the stock trigger.. but, personal tastes run wide.. nearly every report of either the Springer or the PRP trigger mods have resulted in glowing reviews..

it's a simple fact, that you are not going to get a 1911's trigger out of the XD.. if you are looking for something like that, you will not be happy with anything less than a 1911..

people have reported that they get FTFs.. which IMO is due to the magazine springs that are being used in the current production magazines.. that, and the poly follower having casting flash that hinders free movement in the magazine.. the flashing wears off, but you still have the issue of weaker mag springs.. most people who have had problems with FTFs (i.e. nose down) replace their mag springs with higher tension aftermarket springs, and the problem goes away..

the only other real issue with my XD is the sights.. the stock sights are fine, but they are 3 shades of impossible to adjust.. the dovetails on the slide are tapered.. you can move the sight from left to right (with the muzzle pointing away from you) but you absolutely cannot move them right to left.. it's not going to happen.. and if you actually remove the stock sight, you cannot reuse it.. afaik.. so you have to get another sight for it.. and don't attempt to try to adjust the sights without a specific sight pusher.. a punch and hammer will just result in alot of wasted effort..

i've lightly polished the barrel ramp, manually with my pinkie finger tip and MAAS metal polish.. it didn't take very much work at all.. i'm not really sure if it really needed it at all, but i did it..

other than that, it's been great..

the M&P has really nice ergonomics, it does fit the hand well.. but, there are things that i just don't like about it.. the .45ACP holds 10 rounds, the little take down lever.. these are somewhat petty things that most people over look.. but the thing that i didn't like was the trigger's gritty/sandy feeling.. wow, i just couldn't get used to something like that.. i'm sure that it could be polished, or that it wears in and becomes smooth over time.. but i just didn't like it.. other than that, it's a great pistol..

for me, the XD is pretty close to what i want.. and with a small amount of money and time, it would be very close to my exact..
