You guys with the situation where you can shoot around your homes because neighbors live far away are indeed lucky. If my situation was like that, I'd be using a handgun as that is by far my favorite weapon. Of course I'd pre-determine ranges around my home and select the caliber that fit the range.

got an AR with a Gen 2 NOD sight on the carry handle G<G&G gooseneck mouint and an Aimpoint H1 on the lower rail co witnessed to sights. It has a 10 round mag in it (to keep kali law happy) with Winchester 64 grain power point ammo and a Spikes Barking Spyder with flash suppressor on a pencil barrel build on Areo receiver with nice parts. Day or night I can take anything around here with out too much fuss.

For coyote, it's my "Coyote Rifle". Bushmaster lower, Compass Lake Engineering upper. I watch for them off the front of my deck. Pretty much everything you see down to the tree line is mine.

My Jeep rifle was a Sako .25-06 for years. It is a fine caliber in the open country of the West. In more recent years I have replaced it with a .223. I have a DPMS M4 folder with a 3X9 scope. It fits perfectly between the driver's seat and the left door panel. I never thought I would replace a bolt action with a semi-auto? But things change.:)

I used a SBR .223 with a can as my jeep rifle. Not quite as easy to move around with the can but a lot better on the ears if you take a shot.

I live on 20 acres that borders 600 acres of forestry land so I get the occasional coyote, wolf, lots of deer and elk but could possibly see a mountain lion or bear. The weekend before last my gf and I got within 15 yards of a herd of 25 or so elk on a trail just behind the house which was cool. No bulls but lots of calves. I haven't had to grab a rifle or pistol yet except for a few idiots on ATVs, however, if I need close and quiet then it's this DD in 300 BLK.

If I need to make shots out to 400 yards or beyond I'll use either the AI AW in 6.5CM/.308 Win or the AI AWM in .338 LM.

If its in my yard its going to be a 22 or a shotgun, since those are what I have standing by for whatever critters show up.

I shoot in a private gravel pit near my home so during the months when it is not ten degrees with snow my shooting time is as often as i like. Many times i run out there and squirt a couple of mags full of ammo to test new AR builds for proper functioning. Another good thing about the place is it is fenced and gated with a lock so it has not become an eyesore area of shot up items ( cans, bottles targets pieces of brass or anything else that might help degrade the landscape) that so often are the result in non supervised shooting areas. You have seen them, sometimes we are our own worst enemy in that regard,
With several hundred weapons in inventory there is no shortage of fun stuff to fire.,

What is your go to rifle?
For me, that's easy, as I've been using the same "go to gun" for more than 30 years and here it is,

It's a Krieghoff and I love the way it breaks down for easy travel,

It's REALLY handy having EVERYTHING in my hands, when I need it!

I taken coyotes at over 300 yards, moose and deer at 200,

To turkeys and other birds at shotgun ranges,

To other small game and even fox with the 22 rimfire,

To the biggest buck I've ever seen here on my place,

All in an easy to carry 7 pound gun! What's not to like?

My go to was a marlin 336 in .30-30 for years.
Then I discovered the AR15. Now every family member has one of his/her own ( three sons, Mrs, and daughter in law ) complete with weapon light and magazines.

That's awesome. Like the gun version of a Swiss Army Knife
Thanks Nature Boy... But, I didn't even get into how it will fire 16ga or 20ga 3" with these adapters,

OR, how it's VERY accurate,

standard.jpg

OR that I have it "regulated" exactly the way that I want it,

standard.jpg

OR that it will fire 22LR or 22WMR, depending on which Krieghoff "insert" I have installed.

It even works for my cousin lol,
