Please don't answer the poll unless you are a woman. :scrutiny:

If you carry at least some small percentage of the time, which way do you carry most often?

Post on the thread to add details or clarifications.

thanks!

pax

edited to add: if your wife or girlfriend actually carries, you can answer the poll for her, but please don't do this unless she carries more often than once in a blue moon.

in normal situations

I carry IWB, in front of the hip.

I am 51, and I have a "mommy tummy" from four children, largest born at 12 lb. 2 oz and I just never quite got back the Angelina Joliei figure... So things like SmartCarry make me look like I'm going to give birth to something with sharp edges. But if I tuck it in just in front of my hip bone, it just sort of disappears into my silhouette! It's maaaaaaaaa-giiiiiiiic :p

Behind the hip makes no ergonomic sense to me; I can reach it easily if it's in front of me, and nobody can sneak up behind and disarm me. And of course, if I'm pushing a grocery cart, my arm further shields the little bit of bulge.

I carry in my purse if I'm carrying both the XD-40 and the .38; and also if I am wearing a dress that just flat cannot work with IWB because there is no WB for it to be I ;)

Wow, springmom, I thought I had big babies ... my largest was 11 pounds, 1/2 ounce (you know that last 1/2 ounce mattered!) :D

About how often do you end up carrying in your purse instead of IWB?

Me, it's only once in a blue moon -- but then, I usually wear skirts instead of dresses when I have to dress up. Skirts can work quite well with IWB provided the belt is good, and I'm more apt to go with a belly band than I am with any off body method.

not often

Dresses are usually reserved for church, so that's usually when it would be in my purse.

I wear skirts a lot, especially in the warm months. All but one of my skirts have pockets into which the .38 can go too; but I feel that it is more secure, less likely to fall out if I bend over, in its cheapie little Uncle Mike's Sidekick IWB holster. I like those....soft, kinda velvety outside, plastic clip (not metal) and holds the gun just right.

If I'm out in the woods, I have my fanny pack. But my derriere and my short waist are just not built for regular hip holsters.

Can I answer for my wife? She doesn't browse forums at all. I won't vote in the poll until I get permission :p , but she uses a purse not specifically designed for concealed carry.

Yep, by all means answer for your wife -- but only if she actually carries, not just if she has a way to carry.

From Mrs Biker

I carry in a purse designed for such or in a fanny pack.

Mrs Biker aka Bikerette...:)

My loving wife carries her CZ2075 RAMI 9mm in a HBE COMIII IWB right ahead the point of her right hip. She carries this gun in this rig every day.

posting for my best friends mom

Im posting for my best friends mom because she rarely uses the internet expect for her work related stuff etc.... and I mentioned this posting and she didnt seem like she would take the time to do it, she asked me to just go ahead and post the info, so here goes

She almost exclusively utilizes a purse she bought at a gunshow years ago that has a dedicated zipper and pocket designed to carry small autos or revolvers and thats where her sig232 resides 90% of the time

When she is doing something like walking/jogging or actually anything outdoors, fishing etc.... she has a fanny pack that is designed the same way

I voted for her on the purse though because thats her typical carry method :)

If she had never shown me that concealed pocket and zipper, I would have never suspected it, I always assume these days that any woman with a purse could potentially have a handgun, but not drawn from the side without ever opening up the top like you typically would, it makes for a very fast perfectly hand placed on the gun draw, its quite scary to me actually :(

I wear my gun(s) forward of the hip.
If I try to carry any of my guns any other way, they ride up and poke me in my ribcage, and then I get grumpy from being prodded all day and when Kramer Krazy comes home frome work, I just want to rip out a gun and have an old fashioned gunfight with him to see if I can hit a moving target.:D
Seriously, I have a very nice leather OWB holster, but I'm still on crutches (hip replacement last month. Loooong story) So If I try to wear outside my waistband, the holster winds up getting tangled up in my crutch.:scrutiny:

Hi pax, I won't post a response in the poll, but if it helps I have 4 female family members that carry (aunts and cousins) and all of them carry in a purse/handbag that is not specifically designed for the purpose. I should say that the bags weren't sold with that purpose, but the ladies have modified the insides by sewing some straps to attach their holsters to. None of them spend much time on gun forums, so I'm not sure if you want the data, but I figured i'd post and let you decide how you wanted to compile it.

My wife carries in her purse. She has a S&W 642 in a Uncle Mikes pocket holster which is secured in one of the purse's interior side pocket. I keep trying to get her carry differently, like IWB, but she ignores me (not unusual). I figure its better she has it than not at all. I voted for her. Hope that's OK.

Well......Im not a lady but as a holster maker and having a wife who carries everyday, Ill jump in here. She carries in a 'me modified" purse and when on the body, uses this...........
P1010004.jpg

She wears it @ 1.00 or appendix carry and can get at it quickly.

Most holsters I make for ladies are either this style or pancakes carried at the same location that have a little reverse cant to them. Both work well, depending on the body type of the lady.

Shoot well.

Springmom,

I have that really thin figure you are refering to and I still end up looking like I have a tumor too - unless I carry IWB in front of my hip. I think it's got something to do with women's fashion too.

Only real disadvantge to me is that it's right where the seatbelt hits.

I don't carry a purse. Too many goodies all in one convienient package.

What if - I was a female and carried a gun in a past life? and recalled this information through intense hypnotic regression therapy.

Bumped this back up to keep it somewhere near the other two polls. Thanks all.

Totally! Besides that, I'd probably leave it someplace:uhoh:

I wear sweatshirts alot, and I usually carry in a Bianchi Black widow--high rise belt holster, probably in the 2 o'clock range. The sweatshirts pretty much make the gun disappear. I'll have to come up with another plan once the hot weather hits. I just cannot imagine an IWB being "comfortable". I do have one of them, acquired with a gun purchase very recently, but just have not had a chance to try it yet. Evidently it works well for a number of the gals here :)

I always carry in a purse designed for carry purposes. However, I also try to body carry whenever possible (not lately since maternity pants don't really want to stay up with a gun hanging from them). When I do carry on the bod, it's usually OWB on the hip or just in front (depends on what type of holster and how it lays).

For example, for the G26, it's a Kydex and for the 1911 it's a good old fashioned leather rig with belt requirement. I do have a soft side IWB for "quickie" carry (to the grocery store, etc.) but never if I know I'm going to be carrying for a while.

And just to confuse the issue even more: I'm really starting to lean towards a shoulder holster since it's easier to carry that way given that women's business attire doesn't always facilitate carry with a IWB/OWB holster and I can always be concealed with the suit's jacket.

I am 99% of the time in jeans, and have gotten pretty comfortable with an
XD9 subcompact, IWB, just about 3:30.
I can usually forget it's there.
In the summertime, in shorts, a S&W 642, with lasergrips, in a front pocket holster.
It all depends on individual shape, and mode of dress, I tried several other options before settling where I am.
