Forgive me my S&W Brothers, for I might sin!

There are shooting guns, and there are "having" guns. My CZ-27 and Mauser M1914, e.g.
I shoot my guns.... even my rare ones.

S&W Model 29-9 Heritage Series made by the Performance Center in 2001. Only 176 exist and they're literally the final N-Frames to every leave S&W without the lock.

Yeah, I put Pachmayr grips on it and shoot it.

I just hate the lock on the Smiths.... They're ugly, horribly designed, and annoying. As for registering a Model 27.... I have a 27-2. That would be hilarious to call it a registered magnum.
I do not like the lock but the fit and finish on current S&W's is not as nice as 30-40 years ago. I put up with the lock if the revolver is something that I do not have and fills a particular void.

I went on a K-frame collecting spree a number of years ago and except for the Model 16 series, I've met all my goals.

Not to sidetrack the thread...

Taurus revolvers have a good reputation. I need to see if they have something interesting to offer.

The Rossi RP63 has garnered some pretty favorable reviews. It sure looks like a nice up-dated version of the ol' S&W Model 13/65.

Dunno about the Taurus, but I've owned three Taurus revolvers since the early '90s, and they were all worthy.

An 8-shot .357? I'm onboard. Especially if it's not in the price realm of the 627s, 327s, TRR8s ...

Nostalgia admission -- my old Taurus Model 85 was an awesome revolver, easily the equal or better of any S&W Model 36 or 60 that I've ever owned.

Taurus in the 1990s made some interesting designs. A 5-shot K-Frame in .44 Special and .41 Magnum for example.

A lot of people I respect say modern S&W revolvers are strong, reliable guns. The new Classic model 19 can take magnum loads all day long. The lock irks me, but I can live with it. I just don’t like the finish on the stainless guns.

The current guns at mechanically stronger. But they're ugly. The two piece barrels are just ugly on guns like a K-Frame. And the lock.... 🤮. And, as you said, the stainless finish on the guns now are bad too.

Ugly sums it up.

Ugly sums it up.
Buddy of mine purchased the new Model 19. It is a round butt, has a stronger forcing cone, and mechanically is a great shooter. But the two-piece barrel makes it look ungainly and physically, it is a heavier gun. Also, they're 4.25 inch barrels now instead of true 4 inch guns. And the lock just ruins it.

Now, if they made 'em with one piece barrels and no lock, I'd be happy.

The finish, while not the classic blued finish of yestyear, is okay. And being a round butt is great too. But the barrel is just out of proportion.

MIM parts isn't a problem.

As for the stainless finishes now. Man, they're horribly done.

I have Security/Service/Speed Sixes, GP100s, and plenty of Vaqueros and Single Sixes. At this point, Ruger doesn't make anything else I want. Now, if they brought back the Old Army, I'd be on that.
Looking at a $450 Security today

I just need the Security and Speed

They have a habit of multiplying. My 3" USPI contract Speed Six caused a 4" low back Security Six to materialize, then a 6" high back Security Six popped up, followed by a 4" Service Six that just sprang into existence, and that in-turn caused a stainless bicentennial 4" high back Security Six to appear out of the blue.

Been interested in a Taurus Model 608 and a Rossi Model RP63.
Harkening back to the OP -- I'll be in the revolver market this year and both of those look very interesting to me. And not over-priced. I'm not a snob, and I've had a couple awesome Taurus revolvers. The only other revolver I plan on picking up this year is the 4" Colt King Cobra ten-shot .22LR.

It looks even better blued!
Yeah, but that's the old engraved rollmarks, not the stupid laser-engraved crap with the stupid new logo.

Hence why I really like it. I'm going to hunt one of those down.

This is why I am interested in the Taurus 608. The S&W 8-shot revolvers are ridiculously high priced.
I wanted a TRR8 in the worst way, but not any longer.
