Can someone school me on what form is used to transfer a firearm between two parties who reside in different states?
Here's the DL: My dad bought a handgun in MS and is gifting to me. I am an AL resident. We happen to be meeting soon near the stateline, and we intend to transfer it then using an AL FFL to keep this transaction legal.
But I can't figure out what form we will be filling out at the FFL. The "regular" form 4473 is for over-the-counter transactions...
1. Is there a different OMB form for this?
2. Do all 3 parties (transferor, transferee, & FFL) get a copy of the completed form?
3. Does this form get filed in the FFL's boundbook?
4. Will a NICS check be ran on me as well?
5. What is the going rate for this type of transfer?
Any other useful info would be appreciated, as this is obviously the first time I've done this. I am going to "line up" a FFL before we meet to hopefully help expedite this process. When I contact the FFL, what terminology should I use to describe this type of transfer?
Thanks all!
