I form 221 Fireball from 223 brass. I have an RCBS form die and I had the Redding equivalent but didn't need both and sold the Redding.
I get the same first step forming results (looks like a mini longneck beer bottle) if I remove the expander ball/decapping pin assembly from my C&H and Hornady FL sizer 221 Fireball dies.
In my re-forming process I use the K&M neck turning tool with their Expandiron. I see no difference in results if I use the "form die" or the FL sizer with the stem removed.
This is how I do it, I've since eliminated one step since I wrote this but it gives you the rundown on what is needed. I'm sure I could do the same thing with a 222 FL sizer die if needed. Don't know if this helps you but it might give you an idea and save you some money.
I tried it. I have a RCBS & a Redding .222 Trim die. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble (The trimming part) and bought .222 brass. I still have a new box of 500. Sold my .222, but kept my .222 Mag. I had a Sako in .223 as well. I really should have kept it. Argh...... That one I regret.
These days with power trimmers it wouldn't be so bad. The forming part is child's play. Doesn't get any easier.
