Do any of you know of a good gun store in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area that IS 'a busy store' aka high traffic/high sales and sells new and good quality used guns?

I need this information for someone else not myself.

Thank you very much!

Catherine - around the Ft. Lauderdale area there is:

Arizona Shooting Range AKA Guns & Knives off of 441. http://www.gunsandknives.com/

I know they sell plenty of new guns, not sure about used guns. I don't buy there though because I generally find their customer service to be not that great and prices to be just so-so.

There is Outdoor World of course in Dania, which is adjacent to Ft. Lauderdale and only a few miles from downtown Ft. Lauderdale. It is between Griffin Road and Stirling Road on Anglers Avenue just west of I-95. It can be seen from I-95.

My personal favorite, and where I buy most of my guns is IPS/911 Store in Hollywood, Florida - also very very close to Ft. Lauderdale, only maybe 10 miles from Downtown Ft. Lauderdale. http://www.911storeandservices.com/welcome.shtml

They have new and used guns. They aren't very large though, and I wouldn't necessarily call them high traffic, although there are usually about 3 or 4 customers in the store at any given time. Very knowledgeable guys though. A large portion of their customer base from what I can tell are local PD officers and I know of one PD officer who I'm pretty sure is on staff there, although I've never asked him.

There is also Weston Arms which has a brand new location in Davie, Florida which is also very close to Ft. Lauderdale (all of the cities mentioned are in Broward County which Ft. Lauderdale is part of). http://www.westonarms.us/

They have new and used guns. I don't know if their old location is still open. It would be worth a phone call to check. The new location which doesn't seem to be listed on their website is just off of I-595 on SR84 in between University Drive and Davie Road Extension on the south side of I-595. You can see it from the expressway.

If you give me more of an idea where in Ft. Lauderdale this person is, I could provide a better listing though. I know the area pretty well. :) There are plenty of stores. I've just listed a few that I seem to prefer.

Also, as lacoochee mentioned, there is a gun show coming up at the War Memorial Auditorium in about 2 weeks. See here for location details: http://suncoastgunshows.com/gun_shows/ft_lauderdale_gun_show.htm I am not a fan of buying a gun shows though. Mainly because I don't like buying guns that several thousand people have been dry firing for the last few hours. It's a high-traffic show though. If this is for somebody new to shooting entirely, it may not be a great idea as there is usually some nazi stuff at the shows and could be misunderstood.

+1 on Arizona / Guns and Knives. Caution: They might be high volume, but they certainly aren't the cheapest. Nonetheless, a very decent selection and pleasant (by gun store standards).

If you want to drive a little farther check out Lou's Police Supply in Hialeah. (prob 20 mins. south of FLL)

It's a little hard to get to but the place is always packed and he has some really good prices, especially on anything SD related. (i.e. $449 on a glock 22 with tricons and 3 mags.).

I like the range at BassPro/OutdoorWorld but I wouldn't buy a gun there everything is 20% more than at Lou's.

I have purchased from Arizona in the past and they were always great to me. Yet I have noticed that the staff is hit or miss when it comes to service. They do sell some used guns but the selection is limited. One store I can say has great customer service is Only the best firearms. http://www.onlythebestfirearms.com/ Great employees and great selection.

Cathrine, are you moving to Fort Lauderdale from Montana? Just curious why a Montanian is buying guns in Ft. Laud Florida.

:)

Unfortunately the best place to shoot is Markham park but the Rifle range is only 100yrds, but the Trap & Skeet is GREAT!

Does markham allow Ar15's or do they have a stupid pistol grip rule like some other ranges?

They allow SEMI-ONLY and no rapid fire...

As long as it's not a SBR it's fine. (I heard em check a guy who had a short barrel and no paperwork, I think they made him leave. If you have the paperwork you're fine as well)

I shoot my Saigas (Ak-Config) there. Pgrip, Thumbhole. Heck, even used the Saiga 12 to shoot trap. It's not as good at it as my O/U but then again my S12 is my short range Slug/Buck gun :)

They DO have a rule about Pistol-Grip Shotguns but I think that's concerning pistol-grips W/o stocks .... I think that's to keep the riff-raff ruffians out... Not saying a Pistol-grip shotgun doesn't have it's Uses (tight quarters) but it's not something I want being shot next to me considering the serious control issues compared to shotguns WITH stocks.

Oh and my Saiga-12 is in regular Stock formation... once I get it converted I'll take it again and see if I'm allowed to use it...

But other than the Shotgun, the Rifle range will let you shoot anything (Non-rapid and non-select-fire ONLY)

No MG's at all even in Semi (Is what they say)

OH and you "Can't have a loaded weapon inside" but that means Cartridge in the gun or in the mag that's in the gun.... you can have them loaded in a mag that's seperate from the gun (But in your case)

Etc. Etc.

CBR,

What do you shoot, Markham is open till 9pm (rifle range) on wednesdays and 9pm on tues, weds, thurs for skeet, trap, and sporting clays respectively.

right now i have a glock 19, .22lr, and a 30-06 bolt... but as soon as i can find a shop around here to give me a stag model 2 for 850 otd, ill have an AR also

Nice,

I take it you're in the FT. Lauderdale area (just a hunch) But whereabouts are ya? I'm near US1 and Sunrise.

I usually go out On wednesdays for Trap. I Love me some Trap Shootin!

No, the information was not for me but for someone else in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It states that on the original post. I have never been to FL. My older sister and her husband live down there. They moved down there from Maryland due to a former job and job transfer many years ago.

I may visit them before they move from one place to another one in the FL area. I am not positive on that trip though!

I have been looking at land all over the country though - pro gun states! Less populated areas including where my late Mom's sister lived in Alaska back in the VERY early 40's to 1969 and back again, after a P.R. job! Grin.

Take care!

I'd like to join in, new guy...

Ft. Lauderdale local for ... well let's just say more than 30 years... but out of the gun scene for a while. I was an old time 'glades hunter since a child which I had to stop because of **shole's... but I have a nice bunch of handguns that I'd like to trade in on some hom protection devices. How's that for being PC...?

Anyway, all above board and legal, where's a good place to trade in used handguns? Or sell them outright and buy someplace else? Suggestions?

Thanks all... nice to find you guys on the web...
Ray

where's a good place to trade in used handguns

I've found that the store that gives the highest prices for used guns is Only The Best in Pompano.

Buy elsewhere though because their prices are high as well.

Good shop otherwise and the only place you can find decent AR accessories locally. I mainly buy AR accessories from them, not guns. They also have some neat MT knives.

I've purchased many a gun at Aries gun shop in Margate on 441. About 10 minutes north of Arizona gun range. They have a decent selection of used guns, and if you now your prices you can negotiate. I usually deal with Barbara. Very nice people and they know their stuff.
Enjoy the Gunshine State. :)

Lived down there for five years the gun shops are not the best stocked, and the gun shows are not worth attending. I found that sadly the big names like Bass Pro and the new Gander shop in West Palm Beach had the best selections. Actaully the Gander shop had a good selection of used guns also and decent prices, worth the 35 minute drive.

Florida Shooters Network or Gunbroker

Forget OTB. Forget the pawn shops. One unnamed shop in the Ft. Lauderdale area claimed a gun I was trying to trade was "broken". Was certainly NOT broken. Was in perfect condition. No big secret. They want to buy low and sell high. My suggestion: go private. Sign on to FSN and sell your guns in the buy / sell / trade section. Thats the ONLY way you're going to get reasonable $ for your guns. Or try Gunbroker.com Good Luck.
