Nothing too special except these types of ARs seem to be more and more uncommon these days. These things were all over the place in the 90s and 00s but after the AWB expired, the floodgates were opened as far as AR variability is concerned.

So I found this advertised as a complete upper only with an A2 stock also included. Fixed carry handle ARs always warrant a second look and I was intrigued at the C7 type A1 upper with both the deflector and forward assist. It was advertised as DPMS which is plausible. I don’t know if DPMS made a C7 A1 rifle with A2 hand guards and stock though.

Either way, I had to have it. I would have bought it whether it was any configuration of A1 or an A2 I just like the fixed carry handle ARs. I found a lower at home and reconfigured it to as close to mil-spec as I could and here is the result. It’s your boring ol 20” AR that you used to be able to find everywhere. I like it.

Might have to source some triangular hand guards for it but if Paul Harrell can have A2 hand guards on his A1 then I can too.

That is just AWESOME! I think I am on every C7 upper waitlist and will use one on my next build.

That is a great rifle and believe the C7's came with round handguards so you are GTG if that matters.

The C7 was built by Colt Canada. It has been issued to troops in Canada, Norway , Denmark and the Netherlands.
Basically the C7 upper receiver is just an A1 receiver with an A2 brass deflector. They did pick up some popularity in the late 80s but kind of faded out.
I picked up a C7 upper receiver for $40 in 2016. My friend found it while cleaning up his house after the flood. If had been under water for almost a week and then sat in the wet mess that was his work shop for a few more weeks.

I used it for my Junkyard built that I used used parts, other then the lower and a few springs to build. It’s still one of my favorite ARs to shoot.

I recently bought set of a1 triangular handguards and the a1 cap at numrich gun parts, I hot their milsurp set for 22.50, they had new manufacure, and colt sets when I was looking. Bought them for a friend's psa fn a2 build.

I would love to have an A1 style with triangle handguards and a pencil barrel. I had an A2 Government barrel and it was way too heavy.

Was never a fan of the A1 handguards, I much prefer A2s. I really like that combo a whole lot great rifle. If .223/5.56 wasn’t twice as expensive as 7.62x39mm I’d shoot it more.

I am still a sucker for the triangular handguards. Must be the nostalgia bug in me.

Love that first image posted but I like plain and simple in an AR rifle.

Nice looking traditional AR, though it wasn't the AWB expiring that killed these - heck it actually has 4 no-no features on it (pistol grip, carry handle, bayonet lug, muzzle break). I think it was mostly the picatinny rail (then Keymod, then M-Loc) revolution that killed these. Not enough places to hang crap off of. :)
