When my wife and I went on our honeymoon in the Caribbean, flying out of Kansas in the spring, we routed back through Toronto and had an overnight layover. We flew two jumps to get to St. Lucia, regional then international, clearing customs upon arrival, then flew another jump on the way back from the Caribbean to Canada, again, clearing customs there. It was cold that morning in Toronto when we came back to the airport, passed through TSA checkpoint again, and when my wife removed her light, softshell jacket (stereotypical North Face black) as we sat down on the plane - the jacket she had ONLY packed because we knew it would be cold that morning, and NO other part of the trip - she felt something heavy in her jacket pocket.
She’d flown through 3 countries, passing through three TSA checkpoints, and boarded 2 international flights with ABOUT A DOZEN TO 15 LOADED 22LR CARTRIDGES IN HER POCKET.
ETA: she just reminded me - she also had a Leatherman in her purse, the entire time. But they DID search her bag at the outbound international terminal when we checked through from domestic, because they saw my bottle of saline solution on the X-ray… She had a multi-tool with a 3” knife blade and a dozen rounds of live ammunition, but they only caught the contact solution… Security theatre at its finest.
