At Wal-Mart today we were looking through the $5.50 DVD bin and found Black Hawk Down in it.

We're watching it now. It's getting toward the end. Good movie!

Anyway, thought you guys might like to know.

If you like the movie go get the book ... even better (then go buy Killing Pablo, also by Mark Bowden ... another real good read)

I saw the movie when it came out in the theatres. As a fan of the book, I was a little disappointed at some of the things that they changed and left out. But I did enjoy the movie. I think that they tried to capture the feeling of the book. I know it's difficult, a movie will always be inferior to the book.

overrated.

Saving Private Ryan is superior in every way.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that.

I realize that some things are not the same in print and film. But BHD is still a true story. SPR, while containing historical events is Hollywood fiction.

That is not taking away from SPR, it is still a great movie. But to me, the fact that BHD didn't crew upo anything major (that I have noticed) and is a true story, plays more into it being better than SPR and simply not screwing up.

They're both damn fine stories. SPR may be fiction, but coulda happened. Shoulda happened, if the situation had arisen. Woulda happened, given our fathers' attitude.

Blackhawk Down is a classic example of a war run from the rear. Damn fine movie tho, about small unit engagement against a large unit.

If you have a chance to hear Michael Durant speak, DO IT! I've met him twice and will again this Thurs. He tells what he saw from his position and talks of the guys who were there. One of the best presentations you'll ever attend.

$3

I got my copy of BHD on the same DVD as Behind Enemy Lines for $3.
Got SPR, Full Metal jacket, and We Were Soldiers all on a second DVD
for $3.

Join the Army, See the World, Buy DVDs in Crap-Hole Places Where People
Want to Kill You.....wow, what good fringe benefits.

I found the 3 disk deluxe edition for $8 at a pawn shop

it has a lot of extras, well worth the price

+1 to the band of brothers comment

Which is why I liked it better then SPR. Also, the fact that a movie that really makes Bill Clintoon look bad actually being made in Hollywood is amazing enough.

Part of the story is the deaths of Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart (both Delta Force Snipers). You can't make this kind of stuff up. You can read their Congressional Medal of Honor citations here

BHD is one of my fav movies
thats a steal of a deal. i dont know what i paid for it. i buy the dvd and burn a copy, then put the original away. that way since im in college if one of my movies takes a walk im out 75 cents instead of 10-15 bucks. and yes it is legal to make one copy of any movie you own for your own private use :)
