I just got back from a trip to Front Sight this past week. I attended the 4 day tactical shotgun course with a couple of my friends from work. It was great. My only regret was the timing....the low desert in Nevada is still pretty hot (just like it is here in Arizona).

My shooting buddy and I had a chance to run our relatively new SuperNovas through their paces. We were both pleased with the results.

I wrote some comments about the course and added a few photos at my site. I hope you find it worth the read. :)

It was very much worth the read. I did a defensive handgun course there 2 years ago, loved every minute of it. (We went in AUGUST!!)

I applaud you for surviving the August heat. That would make for some very long days on the range.

I took the 4 day defensive handgun course this past November and enjoyed it too. I'll be doing a couple of 2 day skill builders on both of these courses before moving on to the advanced sessions.

Good luck on any future training you may have. :)

Thanks for the review, it's always a really interesting to hear about training courses I hope to get to some day.
How did sewing a PAST recoil shield into your shooting vest work in terms of positioning it? That sounds like a really good trick, I know I have one of those pads somewhere gathering dust... You had it sewed in on the inside?

Cool!

I also just finished a three day shotgun course three weeks ago at www.tacproshootingcenter.com. I also used a Benelli Super Nova mine had a comfortech stock and rifle sights. It was probably the most fun I have ever had at a shooting class.

Flip.

Logan,
It worked very well. Prior to sewing, my wife used a fabric marking pencil to mark the stock placement when I would present the Benelli. Once she knew where on my vest the recoil pad was located, sewing the pad to the underside of the vest was very straight forward.

I snapped a couple of photos for you....

On the hanger, you can see that the side with the pad (shooters right when wearing the vest) hangs a little straighter in the shoulder area. (the funny swirl on the fabric is from the .jpg compression distortion)

Inside out, the pad is now on the opposite shoulder. The stitching does not show through the front of the vest.

Thanks for the review. I've been to Front Sight and it is an amazing facility. I wish I lived closer, I'd be a member.

The Nova has to be the best deal going, especially with the ghost ring setup.

Nice looking shotgun and a great write up.

Regardless of anything else you hear about Frontsight- they do a great job at training. Yes I am a First Family Member and yes I have been affected by a fair amount of the silliness over the years and YES I still think they run a solid training program.
