I have a 48AL Franchi that my uncle left to me when he died about 25 years ago. It sat at my parents house for so long that I forgot about it until about a year ago. I brought it home but did not even look at it until about 6 months ago. I decided it probably needed to be shot. I broke it down, cleaned all the grease out of it (remember it has been sitting for 25 years), lightly oiled it and then went shooting. The first time I shot it it cycled fine. I put it up (yes without cleaning it, I know, I know) then about 2 weeks later a friend asked if I wanted to sell it. I took it to his house for his son to try. It would not eject the fired shell. I took it home and cleaned it again, then re-oiled it very lightly. Put it in the gun rack. Couple of weeks later i get it down and it does the same thing, it will not eject the shell after firing. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Since the 48AL is a long-recoil action, it requires matching the loads to the recoil system but doesn't really need much else to keep running. First, make sure that the friction rings are set up for the loads you're using (the light load setting being appropriate for most shells).

Did you use the same ammo during the session when it worked and when it did not?

To be honest I don't know what loads I was using either time. I had no idea it made that much difference. Learned something new today.
