How can I tell if the FA hand seat primer is the new and current model? I see photos with the push down lever to insert shell holder in different places. One in front and one on the side. Also best place to buy??

It looks like the new ones have the slot on the side. I have the older one with it on the front.

I had one of my shell holders that lost some metal around the rim and allowed the case to rock to that side when trying to prime. I contacted FA and they sent me an entire new unit instead of replacing the bad holder.

I'd look around for places like Midway USA or Natchez to have a sale, but I don't know if you can guarantee you're going to get the new model. Optics Planet shows the new one but one of the reviews stated they wanted the new one and got the old one. Wonder why they changed the location?

There is a youtube video of a guy that says when pressing down to insert the shell holder his finger is in the way. Maybe thats a reason to move it to the side.
