I recently bought a $300 Walmart close-out Winchester Model 70, 30/06. It has a synthetic stock, and I noticed the barrel is not free floating. Does it help to free float a synthetic stock? Thanks.

there are no absolutes w/ rifles. however, all of my rifles that are floated shoot better than before they were floated.

You basically want to free the barrel from any random interference regardless of whether it's wood or plastic.
You can even bed the action in a synthetic stock. It just takes a little more care to make sure the bedding material can get a good 'bite' on the stock.
