Freedom Arms Fan Boy?

I just bought a Model 83 in 454 Casull and a Model 97 in 45 Colt on Gunbroker a week and a half ago. One is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'm anxious to compare them to my BFRs, which are already stellar.

Cool gun, no doubt very strong, but I don’t find the squared off top of the frame to be anywhere near as attractive as the svelte lines of a Colt SAA.

Good luck with your new gun!
I don’t thing it’s a pretty gun, but I love the company and quality of the gun.

I handled a big barrel BFR .500 and the action is precise!

are the 97’s lighter than the 83? noticeably?

I'll trust Craig on that one, I've never actually seen a Freedom Arms revolver in person, so these two will be my first time beholding either one. Still waiting on shipping confirmation for the 97, I paid with a personal check, so it might be a bit for it to clear.

Here is one of my M97s. Absolutely love this platform. I have two set up almost identically - one in 41 magnum and this one in 45 Colt. 7.5” barrel, no front sight, factory FA mount, and reflex style red dot. These are great, light weight hunting rigs.

dang the 97’s looks good! they have 2 new ones at my local Reloading Shop, but they are in .22. $2700. Would love to find one in a big boy caliber like .357 or 45Colt

Here are two Model 97s in 45 colt. A 4 1/4" Oct bbl and a 3 1/2" round butt.

Here's the 4.25" oct bbl M93 .45 Colt -- for some reason I can't edit out the top picture which is a 5.5" M97 22/22mag

I think they are the finest firearms made in America today, certainly the finest handgun. The tolerances are very hard to beat.

I am envious of the members here who have a 353! That is one I have been looking for as I am a big 357mag/max fan and the platform really shines there.

The 83s are chunky, but need to be for the .454. The 97's are much lighter for lower pressure rounds and are a lot of fun in something like a 45LC.

I would have trouble getting along with a four-shooter. The 87 has some sort of manual internal safety that even they do not trust.
that’s right… I heard to only load 4. But what if you keep it on 1/2 cock? <<< still load 4?

There is some kind of better than half cock safety you can engage by manipulating the hammer and trigger, but they seem not to trust it themselves.
The 97 has a transfer bar that they seem to grudgingly admit will let you fill it up.
