My friend just called me to inform me he took a new job. This company has been hounding him for about two years to send them a resume. Well he was getting tired of his job and some of the political games being played. So on a whim he sent them his resume. Well he had his third interview yesterday and they want him to come to work for them. Offered him $22K more than he is making now with more responsibility and freedom to make decisions. At the end of the interview after they made the offer he asked to see their employee handbook.
The VP interviewing thought this was odd but got him a copy to thumb through. Well there was the dreaded NO WEAPONS on company property at any time. So he closed the book and says based on the employee rule book I'll have to decline your offer. Needless to say the interviewer was floored by the
revelation. He asked my friend what was the problem. He explained he had a CCW and refused to work anywhere that denied him his right to protect himself while on the job. My buddy would not budge on the issue and made it perfectly clear to this VP of how he felt about his responsibility concerning his own personal safety.
This morning the President of the company called and talked to him about the problem for close to an hour. He said that the company President was willing to give him a WRITTEN waver on the No Weapons policy since he did have a CCW to get him to join the company. My friend told him after he got the waver he would put in his notice at his present company. FYI his present company has no problem with weapons on company property as long as you have a valid CCW. Needless to say he is one very happy guy today.
