i found out today that a friend of mine had been shot in a home invasion a few months ago. apparently what happened was that after he had taken a friend of ours home after their band practice. the guy he took home lives in an apartment complex that is not in a good neighborhood at all and has alot of gang activity, he's been trying to move but due to allimony and child support he's having trouble finding something he can afford in a better neighborhood. they were having a few beers when three guys kicked the door in. two of the armed men were carrying pistols and one was carrying a sawed off shotgun. they demanded money and that they get down on their knees. both of my friends complied fully and were cooperative. the three guys got what they wanted and then started kicking and yelling at my friends telling them that they had no business living there. on their way out of the apartment one of the guys put a pistol to my friends head and told him he was about to die. my friend flinched when he pulled the trigger and the round traveled around his scalp and went out through the opposite side of his head above his ear and went through a window. the robbers ran out immedietly after the gunshot. both my friends cell phones had been taken and the unharmed friend had to go door to door asking someone to call for help. my friend survived the shooting but i found out he had to be put into a mental health facility due to traumatic affects of what had happened.

i used to play in the same band with both these guys and had taken the same guy home on numerous occasions when his pos car was in the shop. this got me to thinking if i had been there could i have done something to prevent what happened.

Probably not...you may have died trying. Still...its a hard thing to just lay down to be killed.

I've never been it that spot. Hope to never have that put on me! Hope I can live up to my screen name and make the last stand worth it...live up to what "2A" is for.

You will never know, and should not lose sleep wondering. Glad your friend is alive. Now, he needs to assess what happened, and how it happened. Next, he needs to develop a plan to reduce the likelihood that it happens again. Lose the focus on the coulda, woulda, shoulda. History is history, and it serves no other purpose than teacher. Tell him to be a good student and learn from it.

My condolences to you and your buddy.

It makes me very, very angry to hear of things of this nature as THIS country should be above that, but of course, we are not.

Could you have done anything?

Sure.

However, you were NOT there, so don't worry about it.

As long as we learn from things of this nature, and take the appropriate measures to counter or prevent these things, not much more can be asked for imo...

Hope for the best, prepare for the worse.

Glad your friend is alive

For me the intro of the shotgun would be my sign to comply, unless i was in immediate danger of being killed then i guess better to go out fighting.

I try to imagine myself in the position of your friend and I just can't.

The mental trauma level must be horrific, to endure something like that and live.

My condolences to you and your friend, I hope he is able to pull out of this and continue on with his life.

Best of luck to you both.

No one can ever know what might have happened. Glad to hear your friend survived, sorry to hear about his injuries.

On a related note this little bar may quite possibly buy anyone an extra couple of seconds or more in a home invasion robbery involving breaking down a door.

Big Jammer Door Brace $16.95 - It won't stop the determined and strong but it can maybe buy you the extra second or two you need to mount an effective defense.

i haven't gotten a chance to talk to either of the guys personally yet, i'm gonna go see them tomorrow and help them out all that i can. from what i've been told my friend that was shot has a very nasty semi circle scar around his scalp and is having trouble seeing and hearing out of his right eye and ear. i heard he has moved in with his parents for the time being and has basically become a shut in, which is a real shame considering how outgoing and friendly guy he was.

that probably would have helped the apartment door might of well had been made of balsa wood. his apartment was built with very low standards his walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors having a conversation in the next apartment without trying to.

thanks for the recommendation, i'll definetly pass it along.
