Front sight painting

Head to a Gander Mountain and get some Jig Paint from the fishing dept. Variety of bright colors available.

I found some appliance paint that comes in a bottle sort of like white out.it has a built in brush like nail polish. It is very durable and the color is bright white. Works great on the front site of my combat commander.

Which is all good & well, but what to do when you want to get a stainless ramp front sight matte black ?
(Thinking of my 2" S&W 640)

I have some green bright neon paint on th esight of some of my handguns. It really makes a lot of difference in picking up the front sight faster and eventually your target.

Another benefit of painting front sights

I used white out for the base of my front sight on my Vaquero. Since it doesn't have adjustable sights and I shoot 38s and 357s through it, I've started painting the front sight white most of the way down the rearmost portion of the sight. Then, I put a dot of flourescent orange on the uppermost tip of the sight. This allows for the two different sight pictures of the two different loads. For the one that shoots high, i put the orange dot in the groove. For the one that shoots low, I line up with the lower line of the white section. This puts the orange dot and the front sight higher, hereby bringing the low-shooting round closer to point of aim.

I'm thinking you could also use this for increasing your range (100yrds, etc.) with the same load. It takes a little adjusting to figure out where to put the lower line to set it up, but it does work.

Not sure if I'm explaining it completely, but I can shoot a pic or two tomorrow if it would help.

I've used nail polish for years.....on sights and to restore a worn-off safety indicator dots. It's free (my wife never misses one small dot's worth) and easy to use.

The hardest part is convincing my wife that she really needs to paint her nails the same color as a PPK safety indicator dot; "That red color looks so good on you!"....
.

Brownells sells a kit of 6 different containers of paint - 3 different shades of white yellow orange and red. They include a 2 part epoxy
mix to and a l6 little cups to mix the epoxy and paint. You supply the
artist brushes of appropriate size

IMO I got it and it's way overpriced, you could pick a color from Testors model paint and make up a little mix with the epoxy and do the same for little cost, - the advantage is its more resistant to Solvent when cleaning
