It’s heavy but, I try to carry it most days. I carry in the waist. I was corrected. A full size gun is 5 inches long.

I have mostly carried a full sized gun for the last 10 years. Glock 22, Smith 4006, 1911, and several revolvers. Now, a Blackhawk in a Simply Rugged pancake holster.

That XD looks like it has just the right balance to wear comfortable and feel good in the hand. I've carried a full size 1911 for years with no problem keeping it concealed. However, my favorite EDC was a Kimber Pro Compact II (not a full size frame or barrel) it balanced really well also. Every so often I will carry a Glock 21 or 20. IMHO it is the holster, belt, pants fit that if done right you can carry a full size handgun with minimal if any discomfort.

Ditto the comments about a full-size 1911 for concealed-carry. For several years I was primarily a 1911 guy, frequently carrying a Government Model of one iteration or another either OWB (via a Milt Sparks Roadrunner) or IWB (via a Summer Special from Erik Little / Rafter L’s Bruce Nelson Combat Leather “revival”). The commonality between the two holsters is their high-ride and forward-cant, a combination that works perfectly for me in helping to conceal a full-size 1911.

Pics of both holsters below:

I use to carry full size grip semi-autos like the Colt Government, Combat Commander, and the Browning Hi-Power. Then came the advent of more compact guns, as in the CZ P01, P07, Ruger SR9c, and the SIG P229. Nowadays I have downsized my carry guns yet again to the micro-compact CCWs with a SIG P365, Glock G43X , and a Glock G48, while still maintaining or exceeding magazine capacity of the full size models.

The Glock 34 was my daily carry for over a decade. I carried it concealed under a suit jacket with a 12” collapsible baton, pepper spray, spare mag and cuffs on countless dignitary and witness protection details.

But away from work the last full sized ccw pistol I carried was a Browning P-35 that I had to turn back in many years ago. I went smaller-sized after and just never went back to full sized ccw guns.

Stay safe.

Sometimes I carry my sig p220, Glock 35 gen4, or 1911. Out of the 365 days of the year I carry a handgun I probably only carry a full sized gun 30-40 times. That might even be a higher estimate than what it truly is. I mostly carry compact sized guns and sometimes subcompact/micro.

I've tried all kinds of guns. Everything from a Ruger LCP, to a N-frame Smith and Wesson with a 4" barrel. I guess the biggest semi-auto I ever carried was a Golt Government Model 45, but that was back in the day, when ordinary people couldn't get a CHP in Virginia, so I may be mistaken about that. ;)

These days I pretty much limit myself to "Commander" size guns. Technically I suppose they're "compacts" but I think of them as "full size." They've got a grip I can get all my fingers on, and a barrel just over 4". Most importantly, I shoot them a lot better than the smaller guns and they're no harder to conceal.

Carrying a full size gun is not difficult, provided one can dress as they choose.

Caveats:
work could be a limiting factor
unrequired shirt tucking might be a limiting factor, although there are tuckable holsters
activity like going to a gym or push mowing yard likely preclude carrying a full size gun

I gun I carry most of the time is a Colt (lightweight) Commander. Barrel/slide is 4.75 inches long (I think) and weighs in at 27 ounces. Being less than a 5 inch barrel, I guess it's 'small'. I find the weight difference makes it less noticeable.

Have on a daily basis for the past 45 years or so. GM or Commander 1911's, SIG P220/226's, and now Glock 17's for the past decade or so, were the ones used most. Carried HP's, and a few others when looking for a change, but I dont change things up much.

Is that your version of "The Pig"? :p

Wait! Where'd the cat go? :)

Who carry’s [sic] a full size grip gun often?

Being as I live in Western Washington, where we have only about three weeks of summer weather (just kidding, it's better than that, but this is what we used to tell Californians so they'd quit moving up here, but it didn't work out for us), I carry a full-sized grip pistol regularly.

Good holster, good belt, no problema.

This is how I choose most of the time.
Well, uh, thank you for sharing? (My wife makes fun of my chicken legs and won't let me post pics like that)
