i have no idea what to recommend...was just reading and loved the minute of pie plate reference as my dad(passed away 2 years ago) and i ALWAYS bought loads of pie plates and tore em up.

How about a Ruger P95PR15? Its a 9mm with a great reputation, is a soft shooter, very reliable and with the $100.00 left over you could get a nice holster and 200 rounds of ammo.

Hi Point 995TS OR 4095, 0R 4595.

I HAVE PUT ~500 ROUNDS OF WWB .45ACP through mine so far. One failure to feed. Fun to shoot. If you're on the a budget the 9mm would be fine. Excellent CS from the maker and a no BS guarantee. Much more substantial rifle than the price would indicate.

Stoeger Cougar in 9mm would fit -- have yet to hear much bad about 'em ;)

And a 2d on a 9mm carbine; my Sub2K is really fun. Not terribly accurate (or at least, I haven't tried very hard yet at "long" distances -- which I won't name, for shame), but a nifty gun. The Hi-Points look great, too.

i have the answer you are looking for....you want a mac that won't break the bank...MPA 22 top charger.....prices are down to $300 range....it's about the most fun you have with your clothes on, if you don't have a full auto, of coarse...gary

If you want a gun to shoot frequently that's a lot of fun, I'd suggest a post war Finn Mosin such as the M39. You can get one and a ton of 54R for the amount you have to spend. It also really helps build up your fundamentals. The M39 is heavy barreled so it takes sustained fire better than the thin barreled 91/30's.

Also the Yugo Mausers are a blast.

Lots of .22 plinkers fill the requirements.

Before I saw you mention no wanting any .22 lr suggestions, I was going to recommend the Henry lever action above. There's just something satisfying about knocking cans along the ground with one.

It's kind of outside what most people have suggested, but one of the most fun guns I have a Pietta 1858 Remington black powder revolver.

Haven't read most of the thread so if this has already been posted, I apologize.

Any who, the S&W M&P 15/22 is very fun. While, it does cost over $450 new, or at least it was when I made the purchase, you can still buy them used for under that. I actually bought mine for $350 "gently" used. It came with a year warranty and looked great. As well, it shoots with no problem. I highly recommend this gun.

Plus theres the bonus of it shooting .22 LR. Very cheap so have fun shooting knowing you aren't breaking the bank.

Another vote for a Stoegar Cougar. Fun, acurate, and inexpensive What more could you want? I have one in .40 S&W, and I love it. You can get them in 9mm .40, and .45 ACP.

If fun shooting is your main purpose then I wouldn't get a coach gun. It doesn't do anything special. Coach guns have more recoil than a pump gun and most people consider frequently reloading to be not so fun. Many coach guns have fixed chokes so the use can be limited as well. If you are shooting at an organized range then shooting a coach gun at a paper target is not fun either. If you want a simple self defense gun or like the Old West than a coach gun is good, but not as a fun range gun.

My suggestion would be a Sig 522.
