Let's have a lighthearted discussion. Do you own a shotgun that you sold and bought back later? Maybe two times? I own an Ithaca 37 that I have bought and sold twice. Bought it originally from a private seller. Traded it, regretted it, and got it back. Sold it again a few years later to someone who begged for it. Then a year later I found it on the rack at a pawn shop. Defining marks, old pictures, and SN assured me it was the same shotgun. It's has a permanent home now with me. I was wiping it down tonight when I wondered if any of you have a similar story.

Nope (not for anything, as far as I know) but it’s quite cool. Either you live in a very very small town or that shotgun was clearly meant to be with you.

Not a shotgun, but an RIA 1911. Sold to best friend, he bought a Remington R1, and I wanted to give my son a 1911 for his 21st Bday. Bought it back , gave it to the kid, who promptly traded it away. o_O

Again not a shotgun but

When I was younger my dad has this Spanish Astra 600 9mm automatic. It came with a Holster and 1 magazine. Now my dad never really liked the gun, but I loved it as it was the 1st real Handgun I ever handled and Shot. It looked just so different. My Uncle warned my dad about needing to clean it even when not in use. Which he never did, So I made sure it was cleaned on a regular basis. Sometimes it was cleaned more then was needed.

When I moved to Indianapolis about 40 years ago, My Dad gave me the gun. But I decided that a less complex gun was needed to protect the house. So I took the gun to the Stout Field Armory Gun show in the Indianapolis area and sold it for about 325.00 and used that money to purchase a 357 revolver.

Now the years have passed and about 10 years ago after watching some of the old TV episodes of Mission Impossible where they use the Astra a lot when visiting those Communist Eastern European countries. It started me remembering the old Astra and wanting to shoot one again..

Well A few years after that and that "Wanting-to-shoot-one-again-feeling" started to brew into that "dog-gone-it-I-wish-I-had-never-sold-the-darn-thing" feeling. A year after that full fledged remorse set it and I started looking to replace the gun.

Had seen a few at a local auctions and at Gun shows, but either the price was too high or the gun was pretty worn. Well one week I stopped into a gun shop on the east side of Indianapolis and they had a real nice looking Astra in the show case with Holster.

While looking at it and looking into the Holster. Inside the holster was a name in faded ink inside the flap. I remembered seeing that name before but could not remember where. Well it took a few more minutes and like a crowbar to the side of my head that was the name that was inside my dads old holster. I had looked at it and wondered about 100s of times when I was younger. It was identical, I did not remember the name but the lettering was large and distinctive. So I looked at the gun, and the neat thing I remembered was the the gun had a cool serial number with a group of repeating ones, with the last 2 numbers being "81" The year I was given the gun. And where as I could not truthfully remember the serial number but it did have repeating ones, and the last numbers was "81". Well I could not slap the money down fast enough. After 25+ years I got my original dads gun back.

How is that for a miracle of being in the right spot at the right time with the correct balance of money, attitude and knowledge.

Now on the Plus Side I did get an extra (Newer) Magazine out of the deal. One of the magazines is very worn, the other is very clean. On the Negative side, It cost me a little more then I sold it for and I swear there is a rather large nick in one of the wood grips that was not there when I sold it, Which kinda ticked me off, People should take better care of my stuff (ha ha ha)..

But really I can only think of and thank all the people who took care of my gun over the years and kept it for me till I got wise enough to want it back.

Now to look for my GTX

Maverick 88, first shotgun. Bought on a whim when I almost tripped on a rattler while scouting, and only had a 9mm on me. Traded it for a different 9mm later, when SD was more of a concern than snakes. Missed it, bought another, then discovered "shotgun fit". Instead of using a band saw to chop 1/2" off the synthetic stock, I sold it too. SWMBO has informed me that I am not allowed to buy a third Maverick, so the Mossberg 590 is catching my eye...

Twenty or more years ago my trapshooting was in a slump. I traded a couple handguns for a nice 1100 Trap with great wood and two barrels. It didn't help and a buddy in the club talked me out of it. Last year he had a stroke, is recovering somewhat but decided he couldn't shoot any more. My granddaughter is doing pretty well with an 1100 field gun so I bought the trap back from him for her to use. Covid screwed up youth league for this summer but it isn't eating anything so it will be ready for her when shooting starts back up. Meanwhile, it rides along with me as a backup or loaner when someone's P gun or K gun or B gun breaks.

bought a 20 gauge/222 Mag combo gun twice. sold it twice so I no longer have it.

I have 3 different ones! They are an 1897 Winchester from 1914, a Model 12 Winchester 16 gauge from 1940, and a Model 24, also in 16 gauge from 1939. They went to a buddy that "had to have them". Not long afterward, he threatened to cut the '97 down from 30" to 18.5; I quickly swapped him an 870 Police for it. The M12 and M24 both wound up in pawn shops when he needed money. I found them both some years later, 5 miles apart and my serial number records, along with my name under the buttplate, confirmed it was them. Coincidentally, I bet the one shop owner $100 off the gun, or $100 cash in his pocket that the M24 was mine and I could prove it. He was gracious (foolish?) enough to take the bet and subsequently lost when I showed him the piece of paper with my name and address under the buttplate. They are all now permanent parts of the collection. Funnily enough, my wife has never figured out they're the same guns...

Yes, a old JC higgins modal 20, I think the count was 6 times, Finally sold it to someone that kept it. It went to the same co worker twice.

Not a shotgun but I owned a Walther p22 4 times. I bought it new, sold it to a friend then bought it back when he had money trouble, traded it away with a little cash for a Colt DS, it got traded a few times, I got it back from somebody else in another trade, traded it away as partial trade for a kayak, got it back again as partial trade for a custom .308 mauser and set of factory aluminum wheels for a Chevy pickup. I actually liked the gun, but had other 22s that were not necessarily better, but that served their roles better. M&P22, Mosquito, single six, SR22...

I have owned a Remington 870 more than once. They were all Express models so my hold out is a Wingmaster in good shape.

I've hawked a gun in tough times and bought it back when times got better. Especially recently. I usually pick the same gun. Decent value but not much love for it.

Same model? Yes at least a handful of times. Moss 500's. I'm not sure how many I have had now. After I got into some PCC's for "home guns" I let the last one go. Still have one Win1300 but only because it was the first gift Wife bought me when we were dating. So can't sell that one even though it's a safe queen :D

Since herrwalther opened that can of worms, I've owned many Remington 870's and 1100's over the years. I've owned either one or the other since I was 15, sometimes both.

The same Mossberg 500 twice. Sold it to a friend who pawned it years later after he moved to the other side of the state. Visited him and walked into the pawnshop. Saw the 500 on the wall and joked about buying another one to replace the M-1912 for HD. Was told that that was the one I sold him years ago.
His woman didn't want it in the house so he pawned it.

Bought it that day and later traded it for a Remington 870P. Which I still have.

I gave my son a H&R single shot 410 near 20 years ago. Some years later for some reason I don't remember he (sold) it back to me. A couple years later I (gave) it back to him. Later he got married and his new wife did not like guns in the house so I (bought) it back. I realize he's making a good profit off this gun but son or not It's no longer for give away or sale.
