Made it out to the range yesterday to meet up with a friend. I brought a few guns.
Glock 44
Taurus TX22
S&W M&P M2.0 9mm
HK VP9
My 12yo niece had asked me to take her shooting. She had never fired a gun before.
We had a blast. After going over safety and handling, we got to shooting plates.
She’s a lefty but was hitting point of aim in short time. She loved the 22s.
The only problem she had was with placement of her offhand thumb. After I explained what could happen to her thumb if the slide were to hit it, she No longer had no problem with her grip.
After we shot up around 200 rounds of 22 ammo, I asked her if She wanted to shoot a 9mm.
She had watched me and my friend shoot the plates. She asked how much more did the 9mm kick. I told her that it was more, but if she kept a proper grip on the gun, she would do fine.
Well, I have to say that I was impressed. She did great and was able to hit a 10” plate at 10 yards pretty good.
She did get a few stove pipes, but when she did, she kept the gun pointed down range and waited for me to clear the gun. She ended up shooting 30 rounds of 9mm with the VP9.
When we were on our way to the range, she told me that she was a little scared about shooting for the first time.
On the way home she was asking when could we go again.
