Funny How People Change!

If I'm correct, 50 Cent was shot on several different occasions with different calibers. I'm pretty sure half of those scars are from .22's and .25's considering that's what most street thugs can get their hands on.

If we want to play that game, as I recall B.I.G. was shot three times in non vitals by 9mm bullets that had punched through his large SUV's heavy duty doors and still killed him.

Ok, enough about dead rappers that no one misses. Point is, saying a .45ACP has anymore advantages than a 9mm is just foolish. They're both great calibers.

I've been a shooter since the early '70s but didn't really get into the hobby seriously until 5 years ago. As a result I've become way more Libertarian, more sensitive to the erosion of our freedoms by a power hungry government and way more calm, cool and collected since I got my CCW.

Prior to carrying I rarely suffered fools and never insult. Now I pretty much just ignore both and go about my business.

One might surmise that this new attitude would have a beneficial effect on blood pressure. One would be right. 5 years ago my BP ran in the 140 over 100 range. Now it's in the 130 over 75 range (the drop from 100 to 75 is the big benefit). The only thing that's changed that can explain that is my new found relaxed attitude since today I'm actually heavier, exercise rarely and indulge in a diet that appalls my doctor. He's dumbfounded. I've advised him to take up shooting as a hobby and get his own CCW. He's considering it.

I used to be a bigot against AR-15's (as a platform) but I have really taken a liking to some of the platforms positive attributes- and I give it it's due respect.

I think I transitioned from Fudd to non-Fudd. :) Somewhere along the line I started wearing too much black and using the “T” word too much; hint, it rhymes with practical. It has now been quite a while since I bought any black articles of clothing or used the “T” word. :p At one point I thought I was “bad” because I was no frikken sheep and was ready to take on whatever was thrown at me. Now I am a little more proficient and understand that I am not even half as good as I thought. There are more, but they are less amusing.

"It's odd to find fans of "Time Tested Calibers" not enjoying the 9mm to it's full potential. It's not as if the round lacks a body count to prove it's worth, and it was used as far back as WWII."

Where have you been? It was used in WW1. Remember the P08 Luger? Absolutely time-tested.

Actually, I used to think the DA pistols were the way to go. Then when I got a 1911, that all changed.

Don't worry. I'll never feel that a GLOCK or XD offers me anything I can't already do better with a 1911. Been there, done that.

Back in the 80s...

...before CCW in Texas (and when I could afford lots of guns), I was heavily into bigbores--.44s and .45s. Now that I'm about to get my CHL, and since a Model 29 is about as easy to conceal as a grapefruit (and since I'm broke), I've learned to love my Kel-Tec .380.

It is kinda funny how we can pick "favorites"...for quite a few years the wife and I have been shooting black powder guns. The other day I decided to plink a couple spray paint cans with the 10 22.The wife commented that "I havn't smelt that in a while." She was refering to the scent of smokeless powder...

Yes, people and tastes change a large variety is one of the best things to have in life.

As middle age has snuck up on me I tend to like historical firearms more and store bought cookie cutter firearms less other than as hunting tools and protection.

Always nice to find an old diamond in the rough or jewel that has lost its luster and needs some tlc to bring back to original or good condition.

The older firearms and recreations of old or antique firearms are always a favorite of mine but its nice to see so many new ideas and designs come out.

Old dogs can learn new tricks though for example I used to strongly dislike Glocks for years after they first came out I wanted nothing to do with them.
I let personal prejudice interfere with my thinking and wanted no part of them.

Tastes change as do interests what is wanted one day may not be later on.

Maybe one day a reproduction Spencer or 1873 Winchester will follow me home and if it ever does its a keeper although my Sharps will be jealous.:neener:

I used to be a C&R milsurp snob; I thought they were useless junk and not safe for regular shooting.

I used to. Not any more - I know better now. :)

I've changed in some ways and I haven't changed a bit in other ways. I hated the 1911 from the very first time I shot one and I still hate them. I suspect I'll never own a 1911. I used to not care for Glocks, but I wanted a cheap pistol that I could bear to lose if it were ever stolen from my car (sometimes I go to places where I can't have a firearm, so I lock it up in a strongbox). After I bought my Glock and shot it, I found I did like them after all. It's utterly reliable and it's my preferred carry pistol.

Got a source that proves that street thugs can get their hands primarily on .22 and .25 hand guns?

Me ~ 17-18 years ago (my start) : Modern, plastic (for durability, weatherability, looks), semi, high capacity, lot of rounds down range.

Me now : Open to all designs, more precision oriented (in accuracy and build quality) regardless of action type, capacity, caliber. Would choose a few rounds in a tiny group over mega rounds in minute-of-side-of-barn.

its hard to tell because i started shooting as a child and i'm only 24 now so there hasn't been much room for change as an adult. however as a kid, one of the first guns i shot was an h&K usp and my dad taought me what he knew (tactical shooting skills) so when i was introduced the the concept of 3 position .22 i thought it was dorky. now its something that i had more time with and i really would like to get back into. same with skeet, which i had a couple oppertunitys to try and didn't, but know i would really like to learn. i also thought revolvers were kinda dorky, but then dad bought me my m-19 and i think when i have the gun collection of my dreams i will have a few more revolvers. of the corse of time i have come to relize that one type of shooting benifits all types of shooting (i.e. my time with the .22's helped with my tactical shooting skills) so i would like to learn more styles and shoot new guns.

I used to think that Sig Sauer was just too plain looking. Now I love the look and own several. Only rifles I used to own were .22, now .223, 7.62 x 39, 308 8mm, .... High capacity mags were cool, now, well I guess that hasn't changed. 3 mags was enuogh for 1 gun, now 10 minimum. It used to be 5 boxes of 9mm was a lot of ammo, now it is 5 cases. I used to be able to name off all my guns, now it takes a computer. Plastic guns were junk, now " what do you mean you don't own a Glock!"

Firearms have filled a long needed Niche/Hobby area in my life.

I have running and lifting weights that I enjoy, firearms, a Judo class that I am taking now with my GFs' son, and I am a member of a 12 step program (needed)to round out my activities...
