Okay, so you have a rifle sent to an FFL. It arrives. what do they then have to do to make the gun available to you ?

Mine arrived today at my FFL/Range. I went to go pick it up and they said it wasn't ready because it wasn't checked into their system yet. And they couldn't get it done because there was no manager around. Hmmm..

Strange though. When I bought my Glock there, they just sold it to me, did all the paperwork, a few days later when the background came through, I wnet it, signed. DOne.

So ..are they still yanking my chain or is there a process when it gets shipped to them ? Thanks

Because of the stringent record keeping requirements many dealers only allow a member of management to log firearms in and out of their bound books. Guns that are sold are often logged out at the end of the day all at once as a closing responsibility of the assigned manager. A dealer cannot sell a firearm that hasn't been logged into their bound book. Also, if the sending dealer didn't include a copy of their FFL and your receiving dealer doesn't have the sender's FFL on file from a previous transaction they must get a copy of the FFL in order to log the gun into the bound book.

Edit: I've also moved this to legal since a question of procedural regulations.

Correct. Gotta give the folks time get the their side of the paperwork done.

Not quite:

To SHIP a gun to an FFL you need to get a copy of their license to confirm that they are an FFL. The RECEIVING FFL does not need a license copy to log a gun into their books. All they need is a name and an address, or the license number of the sending FFL.

And yes, I am an FFL.

At least you waited a bit to go get it. I've signed for guns and in been in the process of moving them from the front porch to the office (I'm home-based) and had people call because they were notified that it had arrived.

I have also had others wait in the driveway for the UPS truck to show up, and one guy followed the truck around town (it's a small town) when he saw on the tracking that his gun was "out for delivery".

I did a transfer for a guy, UPS came, and before I got to the office from the front door, the phone was ringing. He must have been refreshing his computer every ten seconds ...
