Future surplus rifles

I guess you might see surplus parts kits or modified rifles in the future. If countries sell off their arsenals, someone might use the parts to import semi-auto versions. Might be hard if they can't import the barrels.

Please tell me this is something you heard, or that someone you knew "did", and not something you witnessed first-hand.
Witnessed first-hand. As an O-4, it was someone else's job to do. There were a few old timers that had a hard time with following those orders. In the end, it all pays the same.

We kept a few chopped receivers for curio nick nacks or paper weights.

The M14s, handguns and submachineguns I knew about. I didn't know about the M1s and '03s.

Wow. Just....wow.

I have been to the CMP South Store a couple of times. What they have in the racks depends on what they have in the warehouse for sale.

Last time I was there a couple weeks ago with a buddy who was carbine-shopping, the South Store was looking pretty bare.

They had lots of M1 carbines, various manufacturers, on the racks, but the Garands are getting pretty picked over. Most of what were out in the room were welded up blank firing guns, with only a few Field Grades (and some National Match guns, but at $2500 each, a bit out of most price ranges). They had a few Kimber .22 single shots. Nothing else (though I think an earlier post mentioned more Garands in the pipeline).

Not a hint of any 03s or 1917s, not even the chromed parade guns they had the previous time I visited.

I have heard rumors that the Russians have a decent quantity of Captured G-43's, perhaps that would be the next big import wave. Considering examples range from $2800 up, could be the most profitable export left to the Russians. Othewise, it is probably pretty much over for surplus. Recently, the US arranged a transfer of AK's and military ammunition from Bosnia to the Iraq army, and the anti's at the UN threw a fit. They would rather the guns be destroyed than put to better use. And this had nothing to do with private ownership. It is hard to tell what is exactly going on, but I fear, future international rules will prohibit even the export of disassembled "kits", as well as surplus ammunition.

I personally wouldn't mind "them" cutting down G3s, AUGs, AK74s, Tavors, M14s, M16s, etc. Go ahead. Chop them up.

Then, sell the kits to dealers dirt cheap. Import them in as "parts", not guns.

And, allow American workers and ingenuity recraft even finer firearms out of them.

Heck, I would really like to see the day surplus MP5 and AKSU kits come into the states.

Most of the K 98s Russian Captures were imported from Belarrus and Ukraine. Russian stockpile is still intact . The Russians are selling them blackmarket route esp to African countries for cheap.

Maybe this is the last time we will see imports as Dems will likely take over next year if they win. McCain on the other hand is also not strong on the 2nd AMendment.

I am going to have to ask for some citations for this one. Not that I necessarily doubt you, but I beleive that such statements need to be backed up with evidence.

I'm mostly concerned with getting ammo. I dont know how I'd be able to keep shooting if it werent for wolf and golden tiger!

I read it from one who is in the import business years ago. He has connections with Century Arms.

Ever seen crates filled with WWII Thompsons still in their original, pristine packing? Now imagine seeing them 'demilled' by being run over with a Bradley. Sigh. Lot of us had tears in our eyes watching them get crunched.

Future milsurp is pretty much dead, except for tens of millions of currently existing rifles in military warehouses. Good luck getting them imported.

Newly manufactured 'old' rifles would be the route to go. Norinco sells M14 knockoffs for $400 in Canada. Banned for import in the US, of course.

Had a buddy in the IDF (Israel) and they have been stockpiling all kinds of crap since day one. He said they had tons of stuff that was considered obsolete, but they would not let anything go. He said there was a little of everything, and you wouldn't believe the volume of guns.

Possible more Garands might turn up in the far east, perhaps more mausers in s. america

Can you imagine what the domestic manufacturers would think of continual $70 Mausers like in '96.

The Anti's and the Gun Manufacturers are in the same boat, so far as banning future importation of cheap military surplus firearms.

The gun business is in the business of selling their guns and products. They want a monopoly of supply and they will work on Capital Hill to get it. Politics makes for strange bedfellows, but Government policy is very consistant, Rule one: Maximize the cash flow to the Contractor.

Remember the cheap surplus brass, bullets, and powder that were out on the market a few years ago? Ammunition manufacturers got with their Congressmen and insured that then next demilling contract requires that all components be burnt, or melted.

Basically the Government is a mechanism that puts into the pockets of the upper 1/5 th of the population, the earnings of the lower 4/5 th of the population.

I think that's a little optimistic.

As far as surplus rifle go, getting more of them on the market would be something I'd like to see. Therefore, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
Though maybe, just maybe, the AR-15 market will continue it's expansion to the point that old surplus bolties will go down in price due to reduced demand.

Ok, now that's being too optimistic. :p

What is sad though is the history that is being destroyed. Just because fear controls peoples thoughts. That is what ticks me off.

At least the Clintons didn't let the White House China and Silverware go to waste- they took it for themselves after destroying a lof of good equipment paid for by the taxpayers.

How very "High Road" of you. :scrutiny:

Have you read the GAO report on the equipment destruction, or are you just parroting what the talking heads on Fox news claimed at the time?

I do agree that Clinton was no friend to gun owners/enthusiasts. I too find his administration's eagerness to destroy perfectly good weapons appalling.
