FWIW, the weight of standard v. +P .45ACP cases

I have virgin .45ACP nickled cases by StarLine and Remington.

The standard StarLines weigh 79.4g. while the +P Remingtons weigh 82.8g. I guess there is more brass in those +P cases. :)

FWIW MidwayUSA has those +P cases on sale now.

You can't assume the Rem +P brass have any more brass than standard cases because of the weight difference. That might be true if you were weighing standard and +P cases from the same company but different companies will have slight differences in weight just because they do.

Generally the only difference between standard and +P cases are the head stamp alone.

This. There is generally no difference. The marking simply indicates what the load is (or is intended to be for reloading brass). This would mostly be for guns like the old .38 Specials and the new aluminum-framed versions which can't take +P ammo.

Well, yes and no.

Rem +P cases probably weigh the same as Rem standard cases.

Assuming that the alloys used by Remington and Starline are the same, then the heavier case would have more material in it. If the alloy is the same, then the density is the same. The heavier case would have more cubic volume of material.

Of course, the alloys could be different which might mean the density might be different. Then it is not valid to say the walls of the heavier case are thicker than the lighter one.

But bottom line, within a manufacturer, i would agree that the only difference between +P and standard cases is the head stamp.

brass weight is hardly worth wasting a moment of thought over unless you are A)shooting precision rifle and sorting by headstamp and weight to chop a hundredth of an inch off your groups or B) super paranoid and sorting them by weight as well as the bullets and weighing each round after loading to avoid a double charge.

Starline -
The 45 Auto+P is a strengthened version of the 45 Auto with the same external dimensions. A thicker web and heavier sidewall at base strengthens the case in potentially unsupported areas. This case has approximately 2 grains less internal water capacity than the standard 45 Auto.
Starline only, other brands may be different.
