Next time y'all see the trailer for this show on FX, you'll see a left-handed M4. Not really. I guess they reversed the negative for some reason. The shooter appears to be firing left-handed, the ejection port is on the left, the mag release is on the left, the forward assist is on the left,...you get the idea.

There is an old (obviously) pic of Mr. Bonney that led historians to think he was left handed for years. Then somebody remembered that the ol' fashioned method of picture taking reversed the image. old problem, new century. The pic shows his revolver on his "right" side in a cross draw holster, by the way.

Hmm. Don't some companies manufacture AR-15/M4/M16-style rifles that are left-handed? I'm sure that having a left-handed upper would be no problem at all to make, though having the lower would be a bit more of a pain -- the mag release would almost certainly have to remain on the right, but the selector switch could move.

I doubt the producer's went out and bought a left handed upper for the M4 just to fire blanks in a television series. Little details like that usually escape hollywood. But hey, maybe the producers put this little detail in intentionally just to see if us gunnies would catch it... Could be a message! :uhoh:

then again- half the video games I've played have the ejection port on the left (battlefield vietnam anyone?) left handed bolt actions etc. probably so that the player can "experience" brass flying in their face when firing.

Flipping an image is common practice in Hollywood. It is done so the "flow" of the film will remain consistant. For example, a bunch of soldiers will rush from left to right while the defending troops are shown shooting right to left. By keeping each side facing a certain direction, it makes it easier for the audience to know who is who. But the film crew sometimes films the action moving in the "wrong" direction so the editor will reverse the image to maintain the flow. You can see this a few times in the LOTR movies as those big shoulder slung swords and bows flip shoulders throughout the films.
