I believe it to be a mid 80s gun. Several cracks in various places. I cannot imagine this frame would have much value. Is a p80 a decent replacement? Not sure the older parts will fit a newer frame. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

One downside to using a Polymer 80 frame is you are stuck using their front locking block rail which is NOT interchangeable with a Glock front locking block. Other than that all Gen 1-3 parts parts work in the P80 frames. With Polymer 80 yo do have a choice of either an unfinished frame (80%) or a 100% finished frame that must transfer through a FFL.

If you are wanting a frame that you can just drop the parts into without any work then go with any of the 100% finished aftermarket frames that are available. That being said, I would still contact Glock to see what they say. Glock might have you ship the pistol in for repair or replacement. We have seen Glock repair/replace older pistols without questions may times.

Wow! I would have never thought that.

Ive seen that. Mine says( FS xxx US) thats it. I think it was formerly a police gun.

Are there 3 letter next to the cartridge designation on the barrel?

Edit: Apparently, those 3 letters decoded are the proof testing date of the barrel. Glock stopped doing that at some point (2000s I think). But it should work well enough for older guns like yours. For newer guns, I read the envelope with the fired brass from test firing, has some data on it.

The frame on my gen 2 17 cracked and Glock replaced with a gen 3 frame for free. This was about 5 years ago and they didn’t have any gen 2 frames. Only downside is serial numbers no longer match but that’s not a big deal to me.

I didn't know they cracked.
Less and less with each generation, but yes. Seen... half a dozen?

But, that's in a pool of a LOT of functional glocks. They are not obviously more prone to frame failure than metal framed guns and it is so rare as to be of no worry anyway. I'd get a Gen 1 Glock if one came up for a good price and not even treat it carefully for this worry. Yes, I have also seen cracked: everything else. Aluminum, steel, auto and revolver. Yes, even strong reliable things like 1911s, with deadline-the-gun cracks in the frame.
