Thinking of picking up a g19 , is the gen 5 worth the extra $ ,
anyone have a gen 5 if so what is your opinion and how is the finish on it, seen some reports of finish wearing easily?

I think the Gen2 was the best of all of them, but the Gen5 is a very close second with the ones I have.

I have two 19X and one 34 Gen5 and the finishes on the 19X are holding up. Easy to clean. Haven’t shot the 34 enough to tell, but the finish seems like the really good “Teflon” type Glock used to have on the Gen3.

The Gen5 triggers are pretty good out of the box compared to previous models. But...there’s less aftermarket parts available to change if you want a better feeling trigger.

I don’t have one, but if I needed one I’d have no hesitation about a Gen5 G19 based on the 19X and 34.

Yep, but I haven't handled a G5 yet.

I’d get your hands on one and see what you think about the 19 vs 19X and the 17/34 grip.

Some people are bothered by the mag cutout. It never bothered me too much on the Gen2 or on the Gen5 I fondled.

I have two Gen 3 Glock 19’s one is standard and the other is an RTF. I like the RTF better. I was going to buy a Gen 5 but I don’t care for the cutout at the front of 5he mag well. Then I got my hands on a 19X and fell in love.

I'm not a Glock can but if I had to choose between the 4th of 5th Gen G19 it would be the Gen5.

First, the finger grooves are gone thank goodness. I also like the flared mag-well and the stock night sights. I think they improved the barrel and rifling too which is always good. I'm sure there are plenty more small changes but the above are what I saw and like too.

That said, I wouldn't trade my P320 for one lol...

I have intentionally not handled one because if I do I'll probably buy it.

When I have the Glock (any generation of whatever model) I can't tell the difference when I'm shooting (which is when everything matters). What I feel is the trigger, and what I see is the sights. If there is a light mounted, that makes a difference to as to how the pistol feels in hand.

My vote is for the Gen 2.0 Compact :) No worries about the finish and save almost $200 on price....

Now that's out the way, I doubt it really makes much of a difference. Just a matter if you want finger grooves and the cut out on the bottom of the grip...

Pretty much my story too, though I dont own a RTF (though I do like it better).

The grooves on the 3/4 dont work for my hands and the cutout on the 2/5 annoy me so its pick your poison for me.

If I had to choose I guess I'd go gen 5 with Pearce plugs and hope they dont pinch too much.

But I DID choose the 19X and am quite happy with it as my EDC.

When the RTF came out I liked the look but didn’t buy one because it just didn’t feel right. About four years ago I was offered one in like new condition with night sights for $400. I bought it and found it shot better then it felt.

I tried a friends once a while back and liked it, but not enough to go out and buy another 19.

I think the 5 are better from the 3 and the 4s unless the 3 is an early 3. A lot comes down to the finger grooves. They either work for you or they don't. I like the Early gen 3 or earlier because they used less MIM and they are the guns that they built the entire Glock rep on. I personally think the Gen 2 17 is one of the best handguns ever made and should be in everyones collection.

For me if you are already invested in a 2, 3 or 4 there is no need to jump to the 5 nless you need another 19. I have enough 19s in the safe that I am not planning on picking one up unless I stumble on a great deal.

I have a G17 Gen 5 and it is the best shooting Glock I have. I also have a G17 Gen 4, and a G19 Gen4. I definitely recommend the Gen 5. And depending on how you plan on using the it, you might consider a G17 rather than a G19.

While I have a couple Gen 3 19's, Ive never been a fan of the 19's in general. The finger grooves arent an issue, but the grips are a tad short/cramped for me. I had a couple of early 19's that had the cutout in front, and that only made matters worse, and were even more annoying. I cant imagine the Gen 5's are any better because of it.

Personally, I think if Glock had just removed the lower bump on the grip of the Gen 3's/4's, it would have been the best choice. The 3's are much better feeling without the cutout, but that bump is still in the same place, and a bit of an annoyance.

I also have a couple of RTF2 17's, and think that was the best finish Glock has come up with. Wish they still offered it as an option. Those that have that finish are the only Glock grips I dont stipple.

For me, it would be the G19 Gen 5 because I dislike the finger grooves on the Gen 3 and Gen 4 guns. That's personal preference, though.

I prefer the feel of the 19 Gen 5 over my previous 4.

The trigger guard on gen 4s cut into the top of my middle finger during recoil. The Gen 5 does not. I don’t know if the gen 5 trigger guard has a better undercut or the gen 4 finger grooves forced middle finger against guard. Either way the gen 5 feels a lot better (to me).

I dislike the front cutout but I I don’t notice it when shooting.

OK, I gotta admit I skipped threw most of Mrgunsandgear’s review. He did make a comment about the cutout on the frontstrap. I think I would like the gun better without it.

Also the slide stops/locks. I think this is the real reason that I don’t see me buying a Gen 5 gun. I get why they made the gun the way they did.

But I’m glad they are still making the Gen 4, just as I’m sure there are plenty of people that are happy they still make gen3’s

damn skippy... as the gen 4/5/? triggers will never be as good as the earlier versions... The slight angle change for backstraps ruined em.
