I'm referring, of course, to slapping together a long slide glock 20 using G21 parts, conversion barrels, and such.
Someone posted pics of theirs at GT and maybe here?, and got my shorts all in a wad.
I like my G20, but for some reason, I never shoot it.
I got a razorback, a 1076, a 610, a PT-C bobtail, etc.
Lots of tens, but the glock sights and barrel just seemed, well, adequate , but nothing special, so I shot all my other tens.
Now, as I understand it, I think this would be good for me to do, because I already have a G20, and a drawer full of standard mags.
I'm thinking, buy the G21 6" slide, a recoil assy, the KKM 6" 10mm/.45 barrel, a KKM 6" .45 barrel and keep that set as an upper.
Then, buy the .40 and 357SIG conversion barrels for the other slide, and keep that set as an upper.
I guess my question is, is there an easier way to do this?
Like buy a longslide G21?
Do they make 'em? Ever seen a G39?

Bar-Sto is, or was, making a longslide 6" slide for the Glock 21.
They never did make one in 10mm, why I do not know.

Caspian makes aftermarket Glock slides. Best bet would bet to get a 10mm longslide from them, and have .40 and 10mm barrels for it.

Normally you can't convert a .45 slide to shoot 10mm/.40 because the breechface and extractor are wrong. 1911s that are converted to 10mm were .40 S&W (or vice versa) first.

G20l

I'm one of the guys over at GlockTalk who has put one of these beasts together. You are forced to build it because Glock never made a longslide 10mm or .45 ACP. At this point, Bar-Sto has run out of long slides, but Lone Wolf still has around 30 in stock as of around last Thursday. Like was mentioned, the slides are actually G21L slides in .45 ACP. To turn it into a 10mm, to need a 6" 10mm barrel that is wide enough at the breech to fit a .45 ACP breech face. Both KKM and Bar-Sto make these barrels. KKM stocks them, Bar-Sto will make you one for more money than KKM and it will take longer. The beauty of this set up is that all you need to swap between .45 ACP and 10mm is a new barrel and magazine. The caliber conversion takes about 30 seconds.

The slides come cut for Bo-Mar adjustables and offer a very good sight picture. In fact, this is the best sight picture I have used on a Glock, the runner up being Heinies.

The G20L conversion has lots more advantages than disadvantages. First off, with the 6" barrel, you can reach over 1,300 fps comfortably with a 200 grain bullet. (Handloads or Double-Tap factory ammo) The KKM barrel supports the case better than the stock barrel, so bulged cases aren't the problem they are with stock barrels. You can also shoot lead if you feel the need. Longer barrel/slide=more mass=less recoil/shooter fatigue.

The only downside to this conversion is that it isn't cheap. The slide runs $550 and the barrel goes $165. If you choose to start with a bare frame rather than a G20 or G21 you already own, a complete lower from Glockmeister is around $275 or so. Throw in a mag or two and you are over the $1,000 mark. But, add another KKM 6" .45 ACP barrel and you have TWO custom longslide big bore Glocks for around $1,200. Using "Husband Math", that's two custom guns for $600! What a bargain! Let's face it, you can't buy the parts to build a 10mm 1911 longslide for what this package costs, let alone the cost of labor and finish to put it together. You have no idea how much it pains me to admit that, being a custom 1911 junky with a severe 10mm dependence! (To redeem myself with the 1911 crowd, my next project will be a .40 S&W Kimber Compact Stainless converted to 10mm. Stay tuned...)

This is what the package looks like, with a stock G20 slide for comparison. This particular G20L belongs to Hydromaticman over at "The 10 Ring" at GlockTalk. Mine is identical to this one except I don't have the Hogue sleeve rubber grip. (Or a picture handy.)

Man, why did I have to see that on GT?
I already blew my gun, reloading, and computer budgets for the year, and it's not even july.
I'll have to take money from my ammo budget, the money I was gonna save reloading...
So, I guess the shopping list for next week is:
New 6" G21 upper. $550
6" KKM .45/10mm barrel. $165
6" KKM .45 G21 barrel. $165
Handfull of standard cap G21 mags.
I guess I wait to do the lesser than 10mm conversions until they make a purpose built G20 longslide.
I'd hate to buy those barrels twice.
Well, $880 so far, plus magazines.

Just ordered the slide and 10mm barrel, total spent $720.85, not counting the cost of buying my G20 in the first place.

I will let you guys know......

is it better to start with a G20 or G21 frame. Any advantages or disadvantages to one or the other?

Must have one  Enter the Sith Glock

Well, obviously, if you can live without the extra 1" of sight radius, then you'll save $550 by just getting a longer barrel (6") for the 20, which sticks out the front. That's what I did...but that's a whole nuther take on it. Hey, tangent question if anyone can indulge me please. I'd like to take the frame from this model 20 glock and dedicate to my Mech-Tech upper, so I want to buy just a model 20 frame (I know, ffl, ok), this time a new gen. with slide rails, for the pistol itself. So, anyone tell me where to get just a frame? Thanks.

The longslide, of course, offers no advantages in either accuracy or velocity over dropping the same length 10mm conversion barrel in an ordinary G21 slide. If you're using optics, the sight radius won't make any difference. You can control the slide speed and muzzle flip by using different recoil spring weights and perhaps a compensator.

Got to admit, though, that the longslide really is "pretty." :)

What closed the deal for me were the sight cuts, and the installed melted bo-mars.
The sights are SOOOO bad on my stock G20, I'm looking toward a MASSIVE improvement in accuracy.
Another thing to think about.
The .45 round is shorter than the 10mm round.
Hmmmmm. Scratches head.
That means that there will be less barrel leade (Jump.) and that will also contribute to exceptional accuracy.
I look forward to a massive improvement in accuracy because of the ease of use, the longer sight radius, the better sights, less leade, the KKM barrel, etc.
Not that my stock G20 was inaccurate. It isn't. Not at all.

Camaro man, ok, here's my only glock left:

It's got a 6.0" Jarvis bbl (which is marked ".400", but it's a 10mm chamber, not .40 s&w as I thought when it first arrived in the mail), an extended takedown lever (a necessity for use with the Mech Tech carbine), an aftermarket steel guide rod and 17 lb spring, 3.5 lb connector, TruGlo front sight, and MMC rear sight. It runs good - it's a hoot - recoil is not bad atall. Oh, wait, it did jam on me some when I used the +2 extensions on the mags, but when I took them off and broke in the barrel a tad, it hums along nicely now. :) Not as pretty as a custom "20L", nor quite the sight radius, but you do get the extra oomph. Oh yeah, I don't recommend the true glo front, because having a rounded top profile, it's hard to get pinpoint accuracy out of it - if you're going to run with an FO front, get one of those with the FO tube inside a larger square steel notch, so you have a flat top to align with your rear.
