ok so whats the trick to compressing the ejector assembly enough/properly to get the extarctor/extractor assebly back in.I've been folowing the CMP guide and just cant get it....my hands hurt.....help please.....

A bolt assembly/diassembly tool is the best way to get everything lined up and compressed.
I never could get the M10 combination tool to work like it is supposed to for assembly/diassembly.
Try here for a bolt tool, there are several other sources for these things if you want to shop around.

I have an '06 case (shortened as needed) epoxied into a hole on the edge of my loading bench, projecting out about 1/2" towards me. I take the bolt in my hand with everything (hopefully) lined up and push in. That lets me put my body weight behind it. With luck I can hold things there long enough to start the extractor shaft into its hole and give it a whack with a brass hammer. If it goes down all the way and everything winds up where it is supposed to, I win.

I have good luck using the M10 handle tool to disassemble the bolt while in the rifle. For reassembly I actually prefer the above.

Both get easier with practice.

Some spare springs aren't a bad idea, either, in case one goes into orbit and stays gone.

Safety glasses are in order...

The M10 tool is not easy. I've got an aluminum dry fire device that a buddy made for me. I chamber it and compress the springs against it and just drop in the extractor (like you would do with an M1A by chambering a spent 30-06 case).

The easiest method of disassembling or reassembling the M1 bolt, is to do it while it's in the rifle.

To do this, use either the M3-A1 Combination tool, or the M10 cleaning rod handle/tool.

Simply open the bolt and insert the brush end of the M3-A1 combination tool into the chamber, OR attach a cleaning rod section to the M10 tool and insert the screwdriver end into the chamber.

On the M3-A1 tool there's a semi-circular cut on the rear of the section that holds the brush and that side should be up, with the tool to the right side of the rifle.

With the M10 cleaning rod handle/tool put the tool in the chamber with the attached cleaning rod section pointing to the right.

Ease the bolt forward, then push it forward against spring pressure.
Lift the handle or cleaning rod and the extractor will be pushed up out of the bolt.
Remove it, then ease the bolt back and remove the ejector and spring.
The firing pin will fall out the back of the bolt.

To reassemble, insert the firing pin and ejector and spring into the bolt.
With the M3-A1 or M10 tool in the chamber, ease the bolt forward, then push it forward against the spring pressure of the ejector.

Insert the extractor and press it into position.

This is far easier than attempting disassembly and reassembly with the bolt out of the rifle.

Thanks for all the tips.I got it it together this morning (I quit for the night after posting the question...just too frustrated) by putting the gun back together, put a spent shell in the chamber, put another in backwards up againt it, and used the case mouth to compress and hold the ejector spring while I fiddled with getting the extractor spring comprssed (what a pain!) so I could slip the extractor in.I guess its one of those things that isnt so bad once you figure out the tricks, but crap, what a hassle! thanks again everybdy.where would I be without this place, I swear....
