My wife loves her, yes it's actually hers, Garand. The other day at a match she put a dent in her collar bone (have the x-ray) when she was firing lying prone. Opps. She asked me if I could replace the steel butt plate with a regular recoil pad. She has an extra stock she is refinishing so we don't have to hack up the original wood. I'm not looking for the John Mason (SP?) rubber hunk thing. Nor do I want to use a slip on pad. I'd like to get a good recoil absorbing pad that I can fit to the stock and make look nice. I'm sure someone out there has done this. Can you tell me how you did it and possibly post a picture?

Thanks

Okay, not worried about being strictly legal for Garand matches. She uses it in 3-Gun.

Which Pad? Part Number? Model Number?

I looked at the Pachymar and Butler Creek recoil pads, from what I can tell they are made similarly...

Personally I went out and bought a Limbsaver Slip On Recoil pad:
http://www.limbsaver.com/Products/Firearms/Slip_On_Recoil_Pad.aspx

It really absorbs the recoil and the dang thing is so easy to slip on and off...especially when I was trying it in 15- 20*F weather...

Sportsmans Warehouse has it for $24, Wal Mart also seems to carry it for $20.

EDIT: These were not used on an M1 Garand, but used on a the three Mosin Nagants listed in my signature.

Could you explain that?

DReicht: The CMP and NRA have rules governing the equipment that can be used in the service rifle class of highpower competitions.

Internal modifications are permitted which enhance accuracy and/or reliability. However, external modifications, such as adding a recoil pad, are not allowed.

In John C. Garand matches, the rifles must be completely "as issued" and no alternations are permitted.
