I helped a buddy build an AR recently.
It's a DEL-TON mid length heavy barrel on a DPMS lower with a Rock River trigger and lower parts kit.
It went together just fine, and shoots pretty good too.
It's had about 200 rounds fired through it, and I did the rifle's first clean and lube last night.
I noticed that I can feel a sort of tight spot as the patch goes past the front sight.
I measured with the cleaning rod, and it appears that this tight spot is the gas port.
When I look down the barrel from the muzzle end, I can see something (Not sure what) right there at the top of the bore where the gas port should be.
I suspect a burr or a flake of chrome from the drilling of the port.
There is no complaint about the function or accuracy from this rifle at all. It has not jammed or failed to lock the bolt open, and shoots nice groups. I got one group of about an inch and 1/2 at 100 yards during the sight in, and that's plenty good enough for my old eyes and iron sights.
Have any of you ever been able to feel the gas port in your AR?
Will this smooth out with further break in?
Should we contact DTI or keep shooting?
Is there danger of the chrome flaking away?
Any help or comments are appreciated.
Thanks!
