Deer season isn't until December down here in jersey, but darn it I'm amped up already. I missed the season last year while recovering from shoulder surgery, and I'm antsy already. I made a pig of myself on off season glove sales, and picked up some new shirts, picked up a new stool, made sure the Mossberg's slug barrel was still sighted it and picked up enough scent blocker to cover the entire house. Now all I need is for the calendar to roll a few months off. I probably won't start scouting till September when you can walk out there and not get weighed down with a colony of deer ticks. It just adds to the anticipation.

I have plenty of fills for my thermocell. Skeeters are the problem here.

Tell ya the truth, I've not even thought much about this season. I do know I think I'll give up on that stick and string thing and do more bird hunting in September/October. I'm going to do more duck hunting this year, too, and might even get in some snow goose hunting if I can get my buddy down here from Waco and someone else. Minimum of 3 per party on the geese.

Sayers on the clothes and thermocell on stand. No bugs..at all. I get the Sawyers at REI. Good deals on thermocell at sportsmansguide.com.

How long were you out of commission following surgery?
What I'm really asking is how many weeks, months, etc. did you have to forsake shooting a shotgun?

I'm contemplating arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and need to know if recuperation time is 6 mos. or less before I can hunt again.

I've never used thermocell, does it work well in brush blinds, or is it more suited to having a bunch of airflow. I'm unable to use a tree stand, so its ground hunting with brush blinds, or downed trees. The no tree stand isnt a huge disadvantage, its either very tight cedars or scrub pines, or pinoaks that hold their leaves till spring.

Im sure rotator cuff surgery is a bit differnt. I had a bad labral tear, arthritc a/c joint, and a calcified bursa sac in my right shoulder, which made it a cutting surgery, not a scope surgery. It also adds considerably to the recovery time. What i do have going for me is im under 40 and strong so i bounced back quickly. Right shoulder was back to usable, no pain, strong, and near full strength in less than 4 months. Left shoulder was a different story, total joint replacement, metal and plastic implants. Just about a year recovery, and yea i can tolerate a slug gun again

I had scope surgery on my shoulder about 8 years ago and I was back full tilt in about 3 months. I had one torn rotator cuff tendon and bone spurring. I was very hesitant to shoot my rifles (30-06 or heavier) for about 3 months. I was back to work in 3 weeks and went back to full duty in 2 weeks more. I could have shot my rifles in the 3 month period with no trouble, but I didn't want to take any chances so I waited a little while longer. Your doctor will tell you that how long to wait.
You don't want to rush the healing process and all cases are different.

The Thermocell works great. I used them in Florida during turkey and archery seasons. I wouldn't be without one in warm weather.Much better than sprays. It won't keep the ticks away,Permithrin helps there.

Been walking a mile and using light weights...started Apr 1st. Route is up hill and down. Daily routine has me from 185 lbs down to 168! Think I'll keep it up.

I hear you....I am just waiting for it to cool off a bit so I can set up my stands. Our season starts in Oct for Archery. So I will probably do my set up in Sept. But I too am counting the days.

Archery targets are set up in the back yard. Loading hunting ammo in the evening. 110gr lead over 4.0 gr of 231 is my rabbit load this year in 38spl. 7-30 waters take a Sierra pro hunter 120 over 30gr 3031 and the .270 takes 130gr hornady poly btips over 4350. Charge is in my notes, haven't got there yet. AA7 in 44 mag under a 240gr Keith is my standard sidearm load. I'm ready to be in the woods. Turned in 1/2 day vacation slips for the first 8 days of modern gun season for whitetail. Only thing left to do is put out cameras and stands once I get a few more rounds built.

Archery elk in the Gila wilderness in 5 weeks for me. The bows are ready and I've been hiking 5 - 7 miles per day with a 20lb pack. Hopefully I'll be up to 40+ lbs in the next month and maybe a week of 60lbs.

I'm getting ancy too. I had hand surgery and am expecting the cast to be removed in a week. I've got a new rifle I need to finish setting up loads for. Out west here, I'm going for Elk.

I,m ready for The start of the Roe buck season that starts on the 16th August.
I've got a mate coming down from Norway to try for his first boar.
Working my spaniels on a duck shoot at the end of August till the end of November and then the pheasant season starts 1st October and then moose hunting middle of October.
So a busy hunting season ahead.
