The "Geezer League" met again today out at PG. It has become one of those things that I wait for each week, and this is only my second go-round.

Doug "Yes, you can try out my Purdy" Kelly shot a beautiful little 20-ga Parker that he recently got back from repair. He makes me want to get a SxS double real bad (note to self: petition Dad for one of his Parker Repros....)

There was a Model 12, same one as last week, shot by former-Marine "The Other Doug." He and that Mdl 12 are a perfect combination.

There was a Model 21 and a Ruger Gold Label (IIRC). Both handled by great shooters (must petition the Old Man for the 20 or the 28...can't decide)

I had my Father's old TC with my much beloved 34" tube, and also brought my TC which Dad bought for me in 87 or 88 when I got serious about trap but was a broke college student (Monte Carlo, extended forearm, 30" Rem-choke Target barrel). I hadn't shot my TC for, probably, 8 to 10 years, but she still performed for me - 25 straight, but some breaks were chippy. I'll probably be offering this gun for sale soon, as 3 TC's are overkill.

Then there was Dave McCracken (he shoots trap low gun for cryin' out loud!!!). He had the 870 he refers to as "Frankenstein." I don't know what choke he had in there, but after the BANG, there wasn't a piece left of the targets that was bigger than a small pebble.....

All in all, a perfect way to spend a Friday morning!!

Great way to spend a day, indeed!!

Note to self....don't challenge Mr. McCracken, whether for money, marbles, or chocolate. He will probably walk away with all your stuff...

Wish I could have gotten out today. I went last night but was only able to get in two rounds before the Thursday night league group came in.

I shot with one of the Thursday league shooters about 3 or so weeks ago. He told me about that league and encouraged me to join. Unfortunately, I have to pick my kids up at school everyday (school is in Howard county - 25 miles from me) and couldn't do it time-wise. It's a shame, really. If the guy I was shooting with is indicative of the kinds of shooters they have, it would have been great "watch and learn" time. This guy was a great shooter.

Thanks, Super, it seems I've been beaten to the starting line.

A couple things....

The Other Doug is still a Marine,as he'll tell you. Just not on active duty. He's retired, put in more than 20 years in.

FYI, Al the 21 fan, is retired Army. I think his rank was full Colonel.

Wayne, the Gold Label shooter, works for the NRA and is a living resource on all things gun.

And just so everyone knows, Superreverb started things off by running 50.

TMM,Low Gun means off the shoulder and down a bit.For International Skeet, the butt has to be below the point of the hip. For FITASC(Euro Sporting Clays) the heel has to be down more than I do but not all the way to the hip.

I shoot the way I do to improve my mount. It's working.

My choke was a Carlson's .700 tube. Call it Light Full. 28 POC in that barrel. With the load I use, it's pretty dense at 35 yards. I could back off to Mod and get a bird or two more per round, but it keeps me concentrating better.

Norton, wish you could have made it.

And everyone, the TC Superreverb is planning on selling is in great shape. 30" overbore target barrel, M/C stock, great condition.....

Chokes vary, but since most of these guns are on the older side, tight chokes are common. So are 7/8 oz loads with hard shot, low pressure and good wads.

Some shots in Chinese trap approach 50 yards. That's Full Choke Territory. Still, I've seen Al get some nice breaks with a skeet choked 21.

Sure, Ed. Here's what I used last Friday.....

STS hull.

Win 209 primer.

Claybuster clone of the WAA 12SL wad.

17.3gr of Clays powder.

7/8 oz of hard shot.

All of this available at PGC, good prices.

I prefer 8.5 shot for summer use, have switched to 7 1/2 shot until spring.
